Yet more news from the HD-DVD front, Toshiba has announced that the DVD Forum has approved the proposal for a 30GB, dual-layer HD-DVD R disc. Originally the proposal that was being used was a spec for a 15GB disc that was single layer. Perhaps in response to a lot of interest in Blu-Ray, Toshiba has upped the stakes a bit and designed a user-recordable version. Assuming all goes well it will become an industry standard for media makers next year, though we've yet to see a solid date for a release on HD-DVD drives.
