The Open Source movement continues to gather momentum, with Siemens announcing its decision to join the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL). The company will work to enhance the group's mobile Linux initiative, which is working on standardising the elements of Linux used on mobiles - obviously something that Siemens has an interest in. As well as these activities, Siemens will also help to drive Open Source take-up through the Labs' carrier grade Linux and data centre Linux schemes.

"Siemens has a long history of developing leading technologies for our global customers and providing them with the best solutions to meet their business needs," said Reinhold Achatz, head of the Software & Engineering Division at Siemens Corporate Technology. "We see OSDL as a setting in which we can work with other vendors, as well as customers and the development community, to bring high quality products to our customers."
