AMD is looking to expand their intellectual prowess behind their chip development from an obvious, but potentially scandalous, source - Intel. Engineers working on the Itanium project have been moving over to AMD, which could not only impact the production of the Itanium, but create more tension between the two companies with are already engrossed in legal battles. Though the exact number of personnel making a switch isn't made clear, Intel is set to replace them over the next five years. Itanium has met with disaster after disaster over the years, which makes one wonder both how the Itanium will fare in the coming years and why AMD would choose to hire off engineers that worked on that particular project. But then again, AMD was once known for being the underdog and many say the Itanium is great - just under appreciated.
