Transmeta seems to be up to something tricky lately, in cahoots with Microsoft, and though they have been tight lipped up until now, the project's scope has been revealed. Earlier today we talked about the FlexGo service that Microsoft has been testing and is now ready to roll out worldwide. As it turns out, Transmeta is behind the CPU for this platform. This makes sense, considering that Transmeta is nearly infamous for their line of ultra low power CPUs.

Sites such as MiniITX focus exclusively on using Transmeta CPUs for embedded projects where low power and power efficiency is valued over raw performance. The question is, with such a big project now under their belt, it's a wonder what Transmeta will expand into next. Obviously this opens many doors for them, and we may see Transmeta as a much larger contendor in the mobile or even desktop market in the future.
