Games giant EA has begun a program of shutting down a number of the games servers supporting their older titles. One round of shutdowns started on the 1st of August, and affected titles such as Fifa 2005. Another round of server closures beings on the 1st of October, and will affect games such as Madden NFL 2005. All in all, the closure program will encompass 34 servers supporting 14 games. "Servers for the games listed below will be shut down on the indicated dates. You may continue to play the games online up until these dates, but certain community programs may begin to close down prior to the shutdown dates," the company said in a web statement.

"All of us at EA would like to thank you for your valued participation in our online gaming community and hope that your enthusiasm for these games extends to our current lineup and beyond."
EA have advised that although servers will shut down on the named dates, customers can still continue to use the servers until the closure time. However, "certain community programs may begin to close down prior to the shutdown dates."
