In a press release issued today, Samsung has announced the development and release of a new MMC card design, one that will reduce power consumption as well as reduce physical size. Slated for mass production next year, the new gigabit memory module is destined for mobile devices, such as media players, PDAs, cameras, et cetera.

The new design takes two 512-megabit chips and sandwiches them together, and according to the article has a profile that is 20% thinner as compared to existing models.
