Transcend has introduced a new 2.5-inch SSD unit aimed primarily at notebooks. The MLC-based drive, with a 192GB capacity and read/write speeds of 150MB/s and 90MB/s respectively, is right in the middle of the road in terms of performance and capacity. It comes with either a SATA-II or IDE interface and features a latency of just 0.2ms along with some integrated Error Correction Code (or ECC) to ensure that data is transferred intact.

With the number of SSDs on the market now, it's a bit hard to get excited about all of them. They are still a very new technology, though, and it's too soon to see who will end up being the dominant provider. Some have great space offerings, others are doing better on pricing and still others are trying to highlight performance. There's a lot of room for SSDs to grow, and a lot of ground for them to cover.
