It may have seemed to take an eternity for Back to the Future fans, but 2015 - the year that Marty McFly and Doc Brown visited in the second installment of the hit franchise - has finally arrived. And although flying cars and hoverboards still aren't commonplace, at least one longed-for gadget from the future is still on track to debut this year.

Nice Kicks, a website dedicated to - well, nice kicks - recently attended the Agenda fashion trade show in Long Beach, California. Among the guest speakers was Tinker Hatfield Jr., Nike Vice President for Design and Special Projects.

During his presentation, Hatfield confirmed that his team was working hard to deliver the MAG shoes with power laces this year. He didn't provide an exact release date but with more than eleven months remaining on the calendar, there's still plenty of time for it to happen.

Hatfield joined Nike way back in 1981 and has been responsible for designing most of the company's iconic shoes ever since including the fictional self-lacing Nike MAG kicks featured in Back to the Future II.

Fans of the film and shoe aficionados alike have been campaigning for the athletics apparel company to bring the shoes to life ever since they graced the silver screen in 1989.

Nike partially answered those prayers in 2011 with the release of the extremely limited Air MAG (only 1,500 were made). Those shoes were nearly identical to the ones in the movie except they didn't feature the coveted power laces.
