Amazon, Hyundai partnership lets you order a test drive onlineBy Shawn Knight
Amazon has joined forces with South Korean automaker Hyundai to launch a pilot program in which its members can schedule to test drive a vehicle online.
The program, dubbed Prime Now. Drive Now., lets Prime members select the date and time they'd like the test drive to take place. Once scheduled, a Hyundai representative will drive the vehicle to their work, home or wherever else they'd like the 45-60 minute test drive to play out.
If you're interested in buying the car, all you need to do is hop over to your local dealership to finalize the purchase (sorry, you can't complete the purchase on Amazon).
As you may have guessed, there are a few "catches." For starters, the only car that's available to test drive on your terms is the 2017 Hyundai Elantra. What's more, a test car can only be scheduled between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and only next weekend (there was apparently a window this past weekend, too). And finally, it's only available to people in Los Angeles and Orange County.
Given its incredibly limited scope, it's safe to say this is just a feeler to gauge market interest. If it tests well, I wouldn't be surprised to see Amazon expand the offering to other major cities. After all, any excuse to avoid pushy sales tactics is likely to gain mass approval.
