FragPunk takes the tactical squad FPS in some strange and fun new directions, anchored by its fascinating and frequently chaos-inducing Shard Cards, but it's hurt by an overly complex web of in-game currencies and unremarkable cosmetics.

What this means is that if you can find a lobby, there is a bit of short term fun to be had with FragPunk. However, the aggressive pushing of the store, the annoying voice overs and the crazy achievement list means there are much better shooter options out there. Even the Season Pass has two tiers, and costs a fair old whack of real-world money: I thought Destiny 2 was bad, but this is even more expensive! If you are looking for a free to play game, you have much better options.

Fragpunk's bold decision to break almost every rule in the book leads to a captivating shooter.

This gives you the best opportunity to try out the different Lancers, unlock Shard Cards, and level up. Playing the game with limited lancers makes the game feel like you are playing a beta vs a complete game. If you are looking for a new shooter to play, then you should try out Fragpunk and see if you like it.

FragPunk is solid—mostly. Ditching ultimates was a bold (read: questionable) move, but Shard Cards bring enough chaos to keep things interesting. What really sells it is the swagger. In a sea of same-y shooters, FragPunk kicks the door down with something fresh and flashy. It won’t dethrone the genre’s giants, but it’s no flop either.
