Monark is a game that boasts a solid foundation with some really good ideas and fun combat. It’s lack of polish, however, means this game is likely destined to be more of a cult favorite as opposed to a big hit. It’s a shame as the story alone is worth the journey. If you like an old-school 3D JRPG with interesting gameplay and don’t mind budget visuals, Monark is one ego trip worth indulging in.

Royal Flush Fascinating ideas and concepts can be held back by the execution being lacking. Even if it's not painfully bad, if a game fails to do justice to its concepts it can make the game tragically forgettable. Or, in the case of NIS America's...
There is enough here that I’d give a Monark follow-up a shot. One that fills out its stories a bit more, amps up the horror, and flattens out the grind. Get yourself the free demo and when it’s over, ask yourself if you would have fun doing that same stuff over and over and over. If you think you would, then maybe you will have a better time with Monark than I did.
I've hit a bit of a wall in Monark. I know I'm about to walk into a new story beat, which means new characters, stories, and probing questions about my desires. Moving ahead means a new antagonist to fight, more puzzles to solve, and even another fresh...
