Pre-installed Software and Performance

The system uses an AMI BIOS with all of the basic options one would expect. There are no overclocking options available from the BIOS menu however.

Gateway loads the OS with their custom theme which features a gray smoke background along with the company's name and logo. Unfortunately they also include quite a bit of software you won't necessarily use. The default desktop icons reveal some of it: Creative EAX Gadget, eBay shortcut, Gateway Games, Microsoft Office 60 day trial, Microsoft Works, Nero 9, Netflix shortcut, Norton Internet Security 2009 60-day trial and CyberLink Power Director.

Other pre-installed applications include CyberLink PowerCinema, Gateway InfoCentre, Gateway MyBackup, Gateway ScreenSaver, Gateway Updater, Identity Card and the Windows Live suite.

Below we have included some reference benchmark results from the several tests that were run on the Gateway FX6831-03 to give you an idea of how its processor, graphics card, hard drive and memory system perform under load. All benchmarks were run with Turbo Boost enabled.

The power of the Core i7 860 processor and Radeon HD 5850 graphics card shouldn't surprise anyone by now. We have reviewed both components in detail before.
