Benchmarks: Just Cause 2, Mass Effect 2
We used the built-in benchmark tool for Just Cause 2, choosing the most demanding of three tests, called "Concrete Jungle". Fraps was used to record the minimum frame rates and monitor the benchmark tool's coherence. The best in-game visual settings were selected with 8xAA/16xAF.
The Radeon HD 6870 averaged 31fps at 1920x1200 when testing with Just Cause 2, topping the Radeon HD 5850 and GeForce GTX 460 by 11%. However, it trailed the Radeon HD 5870 and GeForce GTX 470 by 6% and 9%.
Mass Effect 2
We again relied on Fraps to test Mass Effect 2, recording 60 seconds of gameplay from the level "Lazarus Research Station". Maximum in-game quality settings with 4xAA/16xAF were used.
The Radeon HD 6870 was 4% slower than the Radeon HD 5870 and 9% faster than the Radeon HD 5850 running Mass Effect 2 at 1920x1200. The new card exceeded Nvidia's GeForce GTX 470 performance by a whopping 34% and it crushed the GTX 460 by a 50% margin.
