This is definitely a cool list. A lot of terrific games that can be played on most machines.

I used to play an awesome game called DarkStar One quite a few years ago and I remember it requiring very little out of my system. Might be a cool one to add to the list.

Nice list. I definitely wish I found this before I got my new Lenovo y560p this May.

Fallout 2 - best game of all time.

Dungeon Keepers will not work on Windows 7, and is very buggy on XP at best, it will play fine the first 10 hours of gameplay but after this it'll start crashing.
My old PC is not very good, and it could handle Dawn of War 2.
Spore and Age of Empires 3 were also supported.

OMG what about Half-Life 1 & 2, so good, I think most valve games would run good on that hardware:stickout:

My, rig, if you notice, is very entry-level. Yet, since it is properly maintained, I runs great. Still, I would love it if I could run Counter-Strike: Source at Full Graphic Settings without falling to 29 fps.

Read the list; GTA: SA, and all the Half Life games are on there.

CS: Source will give you good performance if you play only with the DX7/8 shaders, as stated in the list as well.

Dark Forces... awesome FPS for the time (non-multiplayer though). But great weapons.

    Super game... love it

I have some revisions to the list. And I do have a roughly similar build (Celeron 2.4 Northwood-128, nVidia FX 5500 256MB Silent) so I know a couple things:
    • Worms 3D and Worms 4 Mayhem work perfectly (with about 30-35 fps framerate), they're not listed.
    • Not all Simcity games work on a P4. The norm is that it goes up to (4) Deluxe, because Societies already asks for a dual core.
    • You have listed Red Faction (all); but Red Faction Guerrilla has awful framerate on my build, let alone yours (Williamette core, I presume?)
    • Same for Need For Speed. I believe due to processor performance that the last ones you can run are Most Wanted and Carbon. That game engine is reported to have worked like a charm in systems such as Pentium!!! 733 Mhz w/Geforce 2 (NOT the MX though), provided that you have at least 384 MB of RAM on your system and that you will run DX7 shaders which causes some lighting to become screwed in MW, and also the cars' painting will be locked on matte for all the versions. Apart from that, 50 fps in a heartbeat.
    • TrackMania runs all versions apart from United Forever.
    • Empire Earth runs all versions
    • About Amnesia: The Dark Descent, my system popped out an error saying not enough texture shaders or something like that. The 6200 is already 9.0c enabled (the FX5500 is 9.0b) so it should play.

@milespower, the thread hasn't been updated in a while due to some personal commitments of mine.

Great points, I'll rectify the list now. Thanks!

EDIT: Simcity: Societies will run on that configuration. The minimum requirements are met. This Youtube video shows the performance; not the best, but playable, with everything on Low.

    you're welcome

well damn that's very good for a Williamette :p That's half-way to risk running on a P3 (well the 512KB Tualatin variant might be possible then :p I've seen that processor smoke 1.8 Ghz P4's back in the day...)
