Thanks klepto, that looks pretty promising. I've been checking the EVGA site but they seem to be a little slow getting the lastest drivers posted. Probably won't give it another shot for a week or two when I tackle the last of the wiring. Still need to tie in the fan controller and a few other odds and ends.

Its coming along nicely Mizzou, and that H100 cooler looks to be doing well so far! :)

Thanks Leeky, got the Intel 510 installed this weekend and it appears to be performing as advertised. Even though you get the Data Migration software I opted for a clean install of Windows 7, figured after all this why not.

I went with the original OCZ Vertex and had to go through a whole series of firmware updates. Still it proved to be very reliable and I'll probably pair it up with the other in my Intel system for a Raid 0 configuration. Really like the Intel so far, the SSD Toolbox is very handy and the SSD Optimizer should help maintain drive performance ... only time will tell though.

ever get those gtx 590's sorted out?

Not yet, have been really hammered at work for the past few weeks. Might take a shot at it again this weekend since I'll be sticking around home for the Labor Day weekend. Think there's a really good chance that the new drivers will do the trick. Keep looking for some firm news on the release of the FX 8150P but all I've seen is a new rumor that it might be delayed again ... AMD's Highly-Anticipated Bulldozer Chips Might Face Further Delay on Xbit.

Over the last couple of days I ran a few benchmarks on the Phenom II X6 1100T for comparision to the FX-8120. Now that I've got the FX processor will be posting results for the following:

    3dMark06
    3dMarkVantage
    PCMark7
    AIDA64 Benchmark Series
    wPrime
    SuperPI
    X3 Terran

The 1100T was clocked at 4.2GHz for these runs and it looks like the FX-8120 will be running 4.6GHz, at least initially. Think you'll see results that are fairly consistent with the benchmarks that have already been published. Still some issues to sort out and future bios updates may resolve these problems.

As an example, the 3dMark06 score for the 1100T at 4.2GHz was 24,445 whereas the FX-8120 at 4.6GHz came in at 20,383. That's on the same system with identical components except for the processor. Needless to say this is not what I was hoping for. More details with the links and screenshots later.

How is the power consumption for both (can you find out)?
  12. Mizzou TechSpot Enthusiast Posts: 930

At stock clocks the FX8120 is better than the 1100T at idle but higher under load.

Here are the results for 3dMark Vantage.

That is one hell of a depressing result. Man I wish I had bought a P67 board instead of an AM3+ :(

I understand exactly how you feel. As the saying goes hindsight is 20/20, I've made bigger mistakes than this over the years  This time is different though because I don't really feel that AMD can be trusted going forward.

Break out the champagne, the FX8120 by a nose

To put this in perspective, my Core i7 965EE at 4.5GHz averages over 140fps with all graphic effects at max settings in this benchmark.

    Note:

Should have mentioned that all tests are running a pair of HD5870's in Crossfire - the GTX590's are definitely going in the Intel rig.

I Agree, I have ever since the Athlon 64 days built myself AMD rigs, times are changing, x79 system for me i feel :)

Dang Mizzou. Crushed dreams build character ya know. I think you'll be okay. Vantage scores are a bit depressing. What will be your configuration if you're moving your 590's to your wintel rig?
  19. Mizzou TechSpot Enthusiast Posts: 930

Sure looks like a better alternative unless I can interest you in a slightly used Bulldozer rig ;)

If crushed dreams build character then I'm one h#ll of a character right about now :)

For the 590's I'll be sticking with my ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution X58 running a Core i7 965 EE and Corsiar Dominator 1600 DDR3. It clocks up to 4.5GHz on air so I'll go ahead and put it underwater and go for broke.

Would like to know your vantage scores. I'm thinking of adding a 3rd 580, would take 3 weeks to finish the addon. AquaGrafx blocks take at least 2 weeks to ship over seas.
