    When did the BSOD start?
  2. adu123 TechSpot Maniac Posts: 301

Since last month, the BSOD started after I perform full system recovery. I forgot to mention one thing: During the recovery process, there is one file that can not be recover, I don't know if that file is related this crash. I perforom full system recovery with a set of recovery CDs.

why do you need all this for? Does help in finding the cause of the BSOD?

Right click my computer and select properties, then the Automatic updates tab and turn off automatic updates. Click apply/ok.

    Does this improve the situation?

    Regards Howard :)

Why do you suggest me to turn off automatic updates? Tmagic650 said the BSOD is not caused by faulty memory in my case, do you agree with that?
Once again, the BSOD only show up when I shut down.

I suggested you turn off automatic updates because some of your minidumps have it listed as the owning process.

Unless you run the memory test, we`ll never know if your ram is the culprit.

The meaning of your bugcheck code is:

    0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Typically due to a bad driver, or faulty or incompatible hardware or software. Use the General Troubleshooting of STOP Messages checklist above. Technically, this error condition means that a kernel-mode process or driver tried to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel Interrupt ReQuest Level (IRQL) that was too high. (A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that have an IRQL lower than, or equal to, its own.)

    Regards Howard :)

ok, I will run the memory test tomorrow, and I'll tell you the result as soon as it gets done. By the way, have you looked at the the most recent minidump I posted at page 4?

I know that it would much easier to find out what cause the the BSOD if the BSOD list the driver by its name or any file. Unfortunately, the BSOD I received does not mention anything but the stop name and the stop code. It's gonna be a hard time for me firgure it out.

I asked for the model of your Compaq so I could see the original hardware and software that was supplied with the system. Testing your memory will help us narrow things down. I am now beginning to think that your use of the Compaq restore discs, is the cause of this shutdown BSOD. Restore discs become obsolete sometimes BEFORE the computer is sold. One idea would be to reinstall XP from a retail copy and not use the Compaq restore discs at all...

Did you carefully run Microsoft Updates and completely install all the available updates, hardware as well as software? 10 to 15 XP updates were released yesterday

So now you think the cause is related to the recovery discs? Do you remember I told you there was one file that could not be recover during the recovery process? I suspect the missing of that "one" file might related to this crash.
I only remember I install 11 updates. How do I recover my computer from retail copy ?

I've already download memest+86 and burn it to a blank DVD, but when I insert it into the CD/DVD drive, it does nothing. What do I have to do to initialize the memory test? I'm stuck!

I've ran the memory test for almost four hours (24 passes), and got zero error. If the BSOD is not caused by those rams, what can it be? Please help me to find out the cause of the BSOD, here are the lastest minidumps

They're all KdsecDD.sys... Not related to memory problems. Get your self a retail copy of XP Pro SP2 and reformat your drive. You can get any missing drivers from HP's website

I would like to mention one thing: I've created those recovery discs by using "Recovery CD/DVD Creator" software while my computer was being infected by spyware, I wonder if those recovery discs are cause of the BSOD?

"Get your self a retail copy of XP Pro SP2 and reformat your drive. You can get any missing drivers from HP's website"...

Can you read English? YES those restore discs could very well cause your BSOD!
