    Ignorance is bliss.....

Since I don't game on line or download movies, Verizon's 768KBs is plenty fast for me. Having survived the AOL experience, it actually seems blazing fast. The paltry $18.00 USD I pay a month for it makes up for any speed deficiency.

I'm moving to a new apartment and changing ISPs. The good thing is I'll double my downstream to 3Mbps, the bad thing is my upstream drops from 384kbps to even worse 256kbps.

What are you paying for that new service with 3Mbps, out of curisoity.

I'm another survivor of the AOL experience. :blackeye:

I could get by like you with 768k, but one you have had 5mbit it really is hard to go back. I regularly download new Linux Distros to test out along with other stuff, so I end up using a few gigabits of bandwidth in a usual day. I used to have 28k so 5mbits is like something crazy.

What's bad about AOL is not their connection speed, but their software.....it bogs down most computers somewhat, and runs bogus scans and things that no one needs. And the processes are a....you know what ;)....to get rid of.

Ummmmm........are those on the same computer :suspiciou ? Typically, if you have cable service (at least where I come from with Comcast), you share a line with your neighbors and street; so if everyone is on downloading something....it'll be slower than if no one was on. I still can't explain that upload speed though  .

$59.95, outrageous isn't it. Thats one of the disadvantages living ~2 hours away from any town bigger than 100,000, and an hour away from any bigger than 20,000.

It will get a little better once I get an HDTV because then I can get a 'package' deal with HDTV, PVR, 3Mbps internet, and phone line for ~$130. Right now I've got 1.5 with phone and extended basic tv and pay about that a month because I'm getting raped on phone charges/long distance. Thats even through Embarq - I laugh at their ads saying $24.95 for 1.5Mbps DSL, there is almost no way in hell that you'd only pay that on your bill, they get you on big charges for other things that are 'required'.

So all in all I'm going to be paying about the same as I am now, but with digital cable/hd with a PVR, and twice as fast down. Slower upload is gonna hurt though. Not to mention a much more expensive apartment I'm moving to.

Yeah that is outrageous! I am paying a little less than that for 6Mbps. That is with Comcast. And that is still cheaper than going with Bellsouth/ATT. Their offer is 1.5 Mbps, plus having a phone line, all for around $55! I jsut use my cell for calls/long distance now.
