Crytek shows off CryEngine 3 for consoles

Following an announcement earlier this month and with the Game Developers Conference underway this week, Crytek has given the press a peek at their CryEngine 3 which promises even fancier graphics on multiple platforms. It’s hard to tell exactly how much better it is compared to its predecessor from the video below, but at the very least it seems to pump out visuals just as well as CryEngine 2 while running on current high-definition consoles.

The demo includes both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 footage, showing off different environments, such as a tropical island and what looks like a futuristic city colored by countless light sources. Although it didn’t include PC platforms the new game engine will, of course, find its way here too and in fact the company claims their platform features “scalable computation and graphics for all major upcoming platforms.”
