Last year we covered the launch of Good Old Games, a digital distribution service for PC games that specializes in classic titles that are at least a few years old – some of them dating back to the early 90s. The team behind GOG.com has built an interesting catalog of games that includes such classics like the original Fallout, MDK, Duke Nukem 3D, Earthworm Jim, Descent, and many others. Best of all, they are completely DRM free and available for direct download from the site.

The company recently signed a deal with Ubisoft to publish some of its best back-catalog titles and today they announced they have reached the 100 title milestone with the free point-and-click adventure game Teenagent. With other games ranging from $5.99 to $9.99 apiece, this service is definitely worth a look if not for the nostalgia factor alone.

And well, the kind folks at GOG.com have offered us a handful of titles for our readers. So what does it take to win? All you have to do is leave a comment saying you want to participate and we'll select five random winners by the end of the week. Each will receive two free games: one of the three Ubisoft titles that were recently added to the catalog (Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946) along with their choice from this week’s highest rated and best selling games.

Although you only need to comment to enter the drawing, to make the conversation a bit more interesting you could probably mention a title or two of the oldies that are most memorable to you. This top-rated list is probably a good start, I'd personally pick the original MDK.

  1. I recall with pleasure an old classic called: "Syndicate" very nice squadcontrolled strategy game. Also the (old) Prince of Persia game was very good.Duke Nukem 3D, Rise of The Triad + Blood also brought many fun memories.
  2. Whatever happened to Zork? I certainly miss the simplicity.command lines on a monochrome monitor. Oh Well, progress I guess.
  3. Yes I would like to enter the competition. My favourite shown would ahve to be Operation Flashpoint. I especially loved two missions out of the game which were the one where youa ttacked a village starting on a hillside and had to defend against tanks, and a one where you had to attack a fortified defensive line in the woods and then got attacked yourself by BMPs and paratroopers. Great game - very realistic as well apart from the tanks were a little too easy to blow up I felt. But you definitely didnt want to get shot even once in that game - totally different from all these FPS gmes where you are practically invincible.
  4. I already bought my favorites on GOG, those bring Descent:Freespace and Freespace 2. But I wouldn't mind revisiting some of the others on offer...
  5. I too go back to the Apple II and IIgs for some of my favorites. Karateka, Ultima, the original Prince of Persia, Kings Quest, and many others. ate up a lot of my time back in the '80s and '90s.Count me in.
  6. Please include me too...
  7. I would like to participate.I still do play Fallout series starting from 2 and then Tactics, boy, isn't that an awesome series... Got F3 too, all 4 of the games should be played and played for centuries...And MDK... Will just smile and let that one teardrop fall.
  8. I would like to participate.Fallout was great, I remember I got the demo in the mail years ago and was fascinated with the game, I played the first stage over and over. I got it about 4 years later, though it was still good it lost its pizazz from when I originally played it. Fallout 2 fun, nice sequel I still have both of these games. Duke nukem 3d, simply awesome, my favorite game of its time, aside from warcraft 2. I have some sort of downloadable version somewhere on pc, its nice going back to check it out if not just to hear him say "im gonna tear off your head and shit down your throat". Decent was so alien to me, the controls were so strange compared to anything I played before, but nonetheless very intriguing, very fun, I never truly mastered that game, some local people held lan tournaments for descent at the school. Quake was another demo I recieved in the mail, loved it, very scary fps, never ended up owning it, by the time i convinced my parents to buy it, its electronic download capability did not work. Wolfenstien fun fun, one game I really liked playing at school torwards the end of class was a game called threat and threat 2, I believe they booted from dos, very simple games, no amazing graphics, but everyone in the class would play it over wolfenstein, most likely because you could play 4 players at once on 1 keyboard , havent seen the game since.I miss the days when you actually got mailed a demo of the latest game for no reason, its was very exciting for me as kid.
  9. Gunship!, F117, Another World, System Shock 2, Deus Ex rocked my world. These days there are too many games with so little to offer. It would be nice to have a NFS Porsche 2000 remake. With the graphics & physics available now that game would be a hit, again.
  10. I would also like to participate...I dusted off my fallout cd the other day... man, that was a walk down memory lane....and come on, Duke Nukem! My favorite one was the side-scrolling original that i played on my dad's old pc. I probably still have parts from that one around here somewhere, holding up a bookcase or something...
  11. Oh if only is was a Novalogic prize pack with the Delta Force series! Now THERE was a shooter!
  12. I would like to participate.Have been gaming on PS2 for last few years but son got a Wii for Xmas. Disappointed in the selection of "mature" tiles for the Wii, so I just got Orange box for my PC. Enjoying Halflife series, but Portal is proving to be a problem with our "family" computer. With Hulu and other options, I am considering adding a PC with cable internet and wireless keyboard as better option than PS3 on our 37" LCD family entertainment system. Anyone else out there doing this?
  13. I would like to participate.Earthworm Jim (Groooovy Grooovy Grroooovy) and Prince of Persia are 2 of my favorite oldies. Never played Fallout, but would love to play thru the series and get the newest one also.
  14. I'm in,it's been a long time Fallout DukeNukem are great games
  15. I would like to participate. I was surprised that of all the titles listed I have played only Far Cry. A great game. Evidently, I've missed out on a lot of other games though.
  16. I'd love to have Far Cry and Fallout 2.
  17. I'd like to participate too :p Loved MDK back in the days.
  18. I want to participate,My first game Fav of the oldies is DOOM! Got me into gaming.
  19. I would like to participate too!I really liked Freespace 2. I have a bit of a soft spot for space sim games, too bad they don't make many good games in that genre.
  20. Going back before many readers were probably even born an early favourite was Galactix, a space shooter on DOS. Another favourite, on the Mac this time, was SimCity. These games ran in so little memory and took up so little space compared to today's behemoth games, yet the gameplay was often superior. My earliest pc was a Commodore Amiga dn games like CANNON FODDER (SENSIBLE SOFTWARE, 1993) were awesome for the time.
  21. I never win anything but I also know that not trying will definately not win anything. Most of these games would be nice if they were updated with new HD graphics, you know like they did with Doom. But playing the oldies has its charm, especially when they're free.I guess being a Techspot Member does have its advantages sometimes Huh?
  22. I'm for sure in.Some oldies I like would be:Commander KeenSpear of DestinyHexenHereticandReturn to Castle Wolfenstein... and SubspaceScorched Earth!
  23. Thanks to everybody who participated in the giveaway, winners have now been selected and will be notified via email.
  24. while not a computer game, yet a game for the old sega genesis that still works for me, Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition XDand, im in
  25. id like to participate as well im not going to write no long essay mind you as that is a waste of time
