New GeForce 197.13 beta drivers fix overheating issues

Nvidia has released a new set of drivers for GeForce card owners and offered an apology to anyone who experienced fan speed issues after installing the preceding version. If you recall, just two weeks ago the company's 196.75 driver was pulled from Nvidia's website following reports that it was causing fans to slow down or outright stop working while gaming, and in some cases even damaging the motherboard or CPU from the increased temperatures.

Besides reportedly resolving this issue, the new 197.13 beta driver improves performance in several games up to 30% and adds support for Nvidia's next generation ION as well as the GeForce GT 320, GT 330 and GT 340. PhysX has been updated to 9.10.0129, HD Audio Drive to version 1.0.9.1, and SLI support for a bunch of games has been added. This is a WHQL candidate but Nvidia is still recommending it over 196.75 in case you installed it and never reverted.

Why are these drivers still in beta?If it's just a fix then they could have done a quick re-release.

197.13 drivers don't fix anything for me. My 9800GX2 and my 8800GT (in my 2 pcs) fans continue to run very slowly and the cards overheat (more than 120°c after 10 minutes of gaming for the 9800GX2 before games crash)

So what happens if your card got fried because of this? Tough luck?

Yep, if your card is out of warranty it's tough luck and go buy an ATI.

I was asking Nvidia for that and they answer me to see with the manufacturer of my card.(it's an asus) And Asus answer me that they can't do anything for me.

My advice is to get some computer expert over to your place and show you how to manually set fan speed and to clean the accumulated crap out of the cards.

Hey, BoTTox isn't supposed to be injected into the brain (inside joke for this troll)

Well I have decided to roll back from 197.13 drivers back to 196.21, until I can be absolutely sure that there aren't going to be any other further problems, as I'm not going to waste more money in having to buy yet another card.

Already bought 9800 GT to replace a 8800 GS (bad RAM, and only lasted for three weeks.)
