For the sake of comparison, the previous version of the game, Modern Warfare 2, sold 4.7 million units for $310 million on its first day. Both numbers for Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 are for global sales, but technically the game was only available in North America and the UK on day one. Modern Warfare 2 reportedly generated $550 million in sales during the first five days available. At the time, that beat all other video game launches and was more cash than any movie had made in the same timeframe.
Black Ops is the seventh installment of the popular Call of Duty military-themed shooter franchise. Last week, Activision Blizzard said that it did not expect Black Ops to outperform Modern Warfare 2 even though a month ago it said preorders for the former were selling faster than those for the latter did.
"There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year's five-day global sales record of $550 million," Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard CEO, said in a statement. "The game's success underscores the pop culture appeal of the brand. Call of Duty: Black Ops is the finest game that Treyarch has ever made and raises the bar for online gameplay by delivering the deepest and most intense Call of Duty experience yet. I still cannot believe that people are voraciously purchasing this trite crap. The COD series is really stale and highly overhyped. To those of you who will indubitably attempt to refute me with review scores, it is well known that many members of the press give inflated scores to hyped franchises (ex. Mass Effect 2; it had a terrible premise (you recruit people, recruit people, and recruit people again); was a sorry excuse for an RPG; and had graphics that looked like a PC game from 2005, but it was given great scores). I think everyone who buys into the reviews for this game are obviously not thinking straight. Come on! this game had soo much money for the adverts and hype, they quite obviously paid reviewers to give it a good score, the meta score TomSEA is proof of that.
After playing it for about 1 hour on the single player I have decided it what Neaojt said, Rubbish.
Honestly am never EVER! going to buy this, the last decent COD was the orginal MW, to be completely honest COD:2 was the best by far because it beat all expectations. so far since then they at max, Delivered Expectations (MW) or been lower (Black ops).
I also feel sorry for everyone that got it on PC, what a poor job they did by the sounds of things. Then again, for the "quality" games Console owners are used to, this game probably looks pretty good.

Oh dear, the PC issues are definitely going to drive me away. Seems like there's a lot of people on the bandwagon though, a lot of praise must be given to Activision's marketing team.

Haha, it's kinda fun seeing that you all bought this game and most of you got really disappointed, that's because you all rushed to get your hands on it! So, here I am watching and enjoying the show... I will download it first (please, don't tell the police I will, lol), if it's worth my time, I'll buy it for the multiplayer game.....naaa, who am I kidding, I will probably never buy it, not after reading this. Now I'm waiting for Techspot's in-depth GPU and CPU performance! Thank you guys!

this game lagged for me, but with the new patch as of a few hours ago it fixed all the mouse lag

People are winging way to much about this game I've played fps'ers for 12 years now. Straight up Black ops is fantastic gameplay and a well packaged game. If it wasn't made by activition it'd probably get 10/10 by most user reviews. The simple fact is bots and fanboi spammers just give it 0 because there still trying to hold onto cod4 or some other piece of crap made years ago. Mw2 was a fantastic game and it got the same bad user scores because cod 4 fanbois thought no dedicated servers ment it wasnt good enough. Now it was dedicated servers they winge about junk like you can't sound hax? The fact is with server support they can disable perks and have the ability to sound hax in competition matches. The graphics are great and the maps are awsome the whole game is a breath of fresh air for the fps scene. If you wanna sit around and cry and play some piece of crap made 5 years ago go ahead but black ops is the best fps game out and the best fps game produced to date.
Majority of the lag is gone to and like most people say just add some code into the console the fact you can even use a console makes the game even better.

COD really has a strong following. After all, game after game has been just fantastic to play and black ops is a new and fresh direction for the franchise.

Wow, interesting and not surprising at ALL, they prolly had the numbers from the beginnin but decided to release them now for some reason anwyays great for them, as a person whho bought the wii and pc version im impresed by botht the wii wasnt to dissapointing like others that are multi platform and the pc even though by comp specs are not that good it barely lags.

I have been waiting to see reviews before I make a decision, But from what I hear the game is not that great. I would be getting it on the PC and to hear about the issues it has I'm quite pleased I haven't bought it yet. I will wait and see if they patch it and make it better.

If you've been playing FPS's that long have you been playing the lowest rated ones? and COD being your only "slightly" decent ones?
The Graphics are not "Great" they're already dated! using an old engine from 2007! seriously, I don't think you've played a decent FPS.
And the dedicated server thing, the thing is is that all these functions have gone (including free DLC) yet, the game is still selling for £40?
If you can explain that one to me, then I will dissmiss that point, but I know you have no argument so its just another point as to why this game absolutely fails.

It looks promising from the youtube videos. Some additional elements here and there but in the end, it's still the same old same old FPS. Some people hate it, while some people are fanboys.Oh well... I personally want to have a more revolutionary game than a rehash of decades past.

I'm sad that CoD has turned into the new Madden. Shine it up, add some guns, re-release a year later and watch all the frat boys buy it at launch. Boy will activision be sad when people find something fresh and their multimillion blockbuster flops because it's the same thing for the dozenth time.

I've got all the Call of Duty PC titles. I just got my copy of Black Ops so I'll reserve my judgement until I've actually played it. I just wish Activision would have charged a little less knowing that they were going to sell a gazillion copies anyway.

300+ million $! Activision doesnt have strong antipiracy protection and look how much did they make it over first day! Look at everyone else with strong antipiracy (which get cracked before official release) and their "records" of sale and generated money. Less protection - less buggy - better optimized - better multiplayer - more people will buy it if they liked downloaded version.
