Weekend Open Forum: An open mic

It's become a tradition of ours to close the week with a post that gives you an opportunity to say a few words about something -- usually industry-related. However, we always choose the topic. This time around, we're going to switch things up and leave the WOF completely open-ended. You can take the conversation anywhere you want. Find a new glitch in Skyrim? Going on vacation this winter? Have a cool video, picture or article to share? Did the neighbor's dog crap in your flowers again? Climb up on your soapbox and hit the comments, but be sure to keep things clean and civil.

  1. 1. I always start the night with a cold Bud, then move onto Vodka later on. But on the question of the Guinness glass: Hell no!

    2. This depends on the brand for me. But it mostly comes up milk choc...unless i have a Milkybar to hand, then it's just white all the way. How you could leave white chocolate out of that question i'll never know...

  2. When I was stationed in Europe, I used to love drinking beer. Unfortunately when I came back to the States the same brands tasted awful by comparison. Some had a reduced alcohol content, but the big difference is pasteurization.

  3. After last night I wish this was a hang over cure thread. In America we can sign up to fight and die for our country, vote for the leaders of our country and marry until death do us part when we are 18 but we can't drink beer. My head feels like a frozen pineapple!

I guess irish car bombs, tequila and dos equis don't get along.

  4. Leeky, Leeky, Leeky - we're going to have to hook up some time so we can pound beers for comparison.

Aye, we can do that, no problems.

    @Benny26,

Sorry dude. White chocolate is very nice indeed. My little girl loves it.

  5. "I guess irish car bombs, tequila and dos equis don't get along."

Uh, you would be correct in that assumption. Shoulda stuck with just the tequila and dos equis - woulda been fine with that.

Budweiser in any container is ethically unacceptable. Sorry but American beers taste like water.

  9. dividebyzero;1116286]Alton Brown ? Here I was thinking that Minnesota laid claim to the confection in 2008. So food fame has still yet to grace your fair state?

I am reasonably sure there is a crock-pot of 'Hotdish' with a bronze plaque in front of it somewhere in the food hall of fame.

(Now you know why I hit you up for recipes and am teaching myself to cook)

At this stage I'm thinking the "Over 9000" meme originates from the average daily calorie intake in the U.S.

Are you kidding??? as a matter of fact, the ISO 9000 was an American initiative.......Intake. Shovel. Overeat. 'The 9000 calorie standard'

This is absolutely true.....a couple of years ago, they did a national survey of 'favorite snacks in the US state by state. The number one answer in Minnesota was..."meat" i kid you not.

You've seen her going and coming out?.....coma?...liquor store?...acting classes*?

    *just kidding

    aha!, very good :p

You must either be extremely rich (and have your own in-house chef) or you've been extremely lucky to only just be learning to cook Sir. .............

  11. Don't want to derail the merriment, but I'd like to post a couple comments about the laptop industry.

Why the frick are we still saddled with crap glossy screens? You can put a full HD IPS screen in a $400 tablet and you can't put the same screen in a $1200+ laptop? Why not? Just charge the extra $25 and get er done already!

Everything in a laptop over $1000 should have a full HD (or better - 1900x1200) IPS, Matte finish screen.

Also, laptop manufacturers, I would really like to give you an extra $5 in exchange for having a second fan dedicated to my laptop GPU. You can, and should use larger fans in gaming laptops, instead of using the same business laptop crap fan and just making it spin faster. Plus, one micro fan for a hot cpu and a gpu just makes an extra noisy laptop. Use some common sense. You are already overcharging by half, so throw in a dedicated, extra large, gpu fan to make it cooler and quieter already. AND allow access to the fans so that they can be cleaned out once in a while. It will save you some warranty expenses and end user frustration as well. You DO want your customers to be happy don't you?!?

And I'll throw one more in. Do not shrink the zero key on the numerical keypad. I would be the proud owner of an Asus G74 right now if they hadn't botched the zero key and used a glossy crap screen on their $1800 laptop. So sad, too bad. Maybe they will clue in by the time they release a G75 laptop. (which should have a matte screen, two larger than normal fans, optimus or the ati equivalent ENABLED, and a full size zero key. And make it all business black. No kiddie neon BS please!)

Let me clarify, I mean cook beyond simply feeding yourself.:p
