Call of Duty: Ghosts has earned a number of accolades since its release earlier this month. The latest iteration in the hit franchise is the number one selling PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game in North America at Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart. As such, it is also the most played title on both next generation consoles according to a press release from Activision.

The game, which launched on November 5 for pretty much every console except the Xbox One which hit retail on November 22, is also number one in standalone Xbox One software sales in the United Kingdom according to GfK Charttrack. Microsoft also revealed Ghosts is the most played Xbox 360 multiplayer game.

Across all versions of the game, more than a billion multiplayer matches have already been played while Ghosts players have prestiged more than 2.2 million times. Gamers have earned over 3.3 trillion experience points (XP) in the process according to internal gameplay statistics.

In a statement on the matter, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. He reiterated the sales achievements listed above and also said they have the best community of fans in the world. Activision is thrilled that gamers are joining them on next generation consoles, he concluded.

A few weeks ago it was revealed that Ghosts had reached more than $1 billion in sales during opening weekend although that figure is a bit misleading as that is how many games Activision sold to retailers, not how many copies were purchased by gamers.
