Benchmarks: SiSoftware Sandra

The first batch of SiSoftware Sandra 2009 results were recorded using the File Systems benchmark to measure buffered write and read speeds. The QNAP TS-809 Pro Turbo performed remarkably well with a buffered write result of 108MB/s using either RAID0 or RAID5.

This meant QNAP's device was 19% faster than our desktop test system and roughly 34% faster than the Synology Disk Station 409+. Read performance was also superior on the TS-809 Pro Turbo NAS, as it managed to beat our test desktop system by an 11% margin and both the Synology and Promise NAS devices by 8%.

When it came to random reads and writes our desktop system still had a significant advantage over the TS-809 Pro Turbo and every other tested device. Nevertheless QNAP's device managed to outperform the Synology Disk Station 409+ by 14% and 16% margins when measuring write and read performance respectively.

Finally we used SiSoftware Sandra 2009 to measure network throughput, a test that has been dominated by our desktop test system in the past with sustained transfer rates of 66MB/s. However, the QNAP TS-809 Pro Turbo managed 77MB/s. This made it 14% faster than our desktop and 26% faster than Synology's Disk Station 409+.
