When Fifa 97 was first released I felt it was the first soccer game that I really enjoyed because of it's realism, then was Fifa 98: Road to the World Cup and sure it was much better than the previous, even more realism added, better graphics finally using 3D acceleration and more features than before. World Cup 98 was released like 6 months later, using the same engine of Fifa 98 RTCW it had a better usage of 3D cards and the game came with D3D support out of the box but what really impressed of this release was that gameplay was faster and better, I just couldn't imagine how this almost perfect game could be improved.

When I first saw Fifa 99 I felt like I was in heaven... again EA surprised me with an amazing product.

The graphics have been greatly improved over the previous versions of the game, player modelling and animations are much smoother now, making a pass doesn't take ages anymore, this "speed boost" on the gameplay can be noticed inmediately and adds much more realism to the game, also there is no waste of time on animations like a player getting the ball for a corner, instead these have been replaced by some cool in-play cut scenes like a player regreting, the goal keeper complaining because of a poor defense and of course the sometimes funny cut scenes for fouls are still present, there is a wider variety of them now.

All the players don't look the same anymore, you'll notice a difference in size between big and tiny players and that does affect gameplay.

Also it's important to mention that players now can move their mouths, it's very cool to see this when they argue with the referee or celebrate a goal. Although the crowd is still flat it looks a bit better than before, stadiums look better overall specially because of the improved lightning effects, realistic weather effects have been added too, now you can see rain and snow falling while playing.
