In 35 years of playing games, I've never quite had a wow moment quite like the first time I powered up a voodoo 2. It was an important time for PC gaming.

The API fragmentation was a headache though. Glide was really a subset of the OpenGL standard, and that fragmentation didn't help OpenGl. It's a real shame that Direct 3D, a proprietary API pulled ahead for years.

Unreal was, well, unreal! Fantastic world. I have it on Steam and fire it up once in awhile. Not sure it was a true Quake Killer, but it definitely made my Quake gather dust once Unreal came out.

It made me forget about Quake 2 for a while but then modded Quake 2 servers started popping up like Rune and my all time favorite Chaos Deathmatch, that was absolute madness.

I was too poor to afford a 3d graphics card. I played more civilization, but great memories none the less.

Not just poor, but still had 3DO & N64s lying around. And I didn't see the PCs offering anything 'better' for the time.

First real pay check in my life was used to purchase a Diamond Monster 3D (Voodoo 1). Best day of my life back then...

Combat flight simulators, anyone?

I collected nearly all the Jane's Combat Simulations.

Just install nglide and vooodo glide. put 3dfxglide.dll inside game folder/s and try playing those janes fleet with 3dfx glide. look for mremakes on gog.com too. new and updated drivers for newest gpu cpu hardware. dosbox are also supported with nglide. the 3dfx logo on every supported pc ms-dos win9x .linuix wine unbutu. just explore and see if those games can run fine/nice 1 2 3dfx.

I started off with a Matrox as someone suggested that I use them instead of getting a 3Dfx card. Card worked ok, but it was an addon and had a lot of trouble with it. Then I went to TNT and TNTUltra 2.

Many hours playing Quake 2... Also Microsoft Midtown Madness 1&2 ( I wish they would do a remake of these)

If anyone remembers, Interstate '76 was a funk themed game. The second disc that came with the game was a complete funk album. I only wish I still had it.

Only bugger how to run interstate 82 on win 10 must be fixed with gog.com too. somehow it starts up but you cant play any missions. I 76 3dfx LOVEly game but cheating not allowed. thats a nice game. miniGL half life 1 (2) redline 3dfx tomb raider 1 2 3 . now just get nglide and see if they can run 3dfx game logo. turok 3dfx 2. nvidia with 3dfx gaming are not yet dead. play ball.. https://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide/compatibility

To play extract all files into game directory from here and set Windows 95 compatibility mode to 'hind_3dfx.exe'.

To play on Win7 you must additionally use Aqrit's ddraw wrapper. Set 'ForceDirectDrawEmulation=1' and 'NoVideoMemory=1' in 'aqrit.cfg' and launch the game with 'noexplorer.bat'.
