AI-powered Windows 12 is on its way, but Windows 10 is still king

I love that now everyone scream's Windows 10 is king, before that Windows 7 was king and W10 sucked, and no one was going to upgrade to 11.

Guess what, you are, you will eventually not have a choice unless you go to Linux, and that isn't going to happen for the masses. Microsoft controls all of your PCs and there is nothing you can do, unless you go to macOS and that is the 'devil" in a PC gamers mind. There is no alternative OS for a PC.

Until them come up with an OS that is "adjustable" to the point of being able to run on any machine it wiil be proclaimed a looser. The fact that there are so many work arounds to run Windows 11 on 10 machines is a clear indication that Microsoft isn't about the users, only about itself ....... just another great reason I went to Linux ....

At first glance, AI seems to be too scary / too new / too much for many application, superfluous, etc

But considering the epidemic of human stupidity that swept the US and consequently the whole planet in 2016 (and is still expanding!!), maybe it is good for humanity to be taught how to think again.

And furthermore, to re-learn critical thinking and not let the Foxy outlets do the thinking for them!!

Will this be used with DEEPFAKE tech by news & politics as a tool? It appears as time goes on WINDOWS and hell even other software/hardware seems to benefit crooked folks higher up. We already see how the F B I was caught abusing the power of social media. AI, DEEPFAKE & other tech is growing fast and already it has started small wars & other crimes.

I understand it's a 2 way street (usually) or some sort of balance of good/evil 😈, another good example is C O V I D which has been "recently" proved it was purposely engineered. Give an evil person the tech they will use it.

Personal computer not so personal anymore, as it is becoming a person, yikes

Remember, Microsoft is a corporation and anything that they do is for their benefit, not ours.

Great point: computers now are no longer personal when the company that develops the OS limits personalization and force you to use what they think is better for you...

I can imagine an AI-Windows 12 to have an AI-powered Start button that opens a file or app that it thinks you need.

"Hmmmmm.....why is that?"

I am certainly not gonna sit here and pretend that Windows 11 does things I don't like. I guess weighing the pros and cons on the scales of justice, it just doesn't tip far enough to the guilty side for me to stop using it completely. But even it it does (or I discover things I don't like as I probe the reason behind the hate further) I'm sure that the more intelligent folk out in the wild have a tip, tweak or utility that can balance out that evil.

So what are the top 5 (or 10 if you like) reasons that you won't upgrade to Windows 11?

Honestly, the cardinal sin for me would be if "Windows 11" general OS became a subscription service. I would be done with it at that point (I hope). It's already partly "gone down" that route by charging for other software that should just be part of the OS. Slowly acclimating the masses to the concept of paying for software for life, cradle to grave. People actually pay for Office 365 already. I use Apache's Open Office and Libre Office as an alternative.

I also use Microsoft's One Note for Office 365 which is, as of this writing anyway, still free to use. AFAIK!

I know that Windows telemetry has always been a big issue for people but there are ways to mitigate that also.

I don't mind windows 11 too much, yes I end up changing it back so it looks like 10 (moving the start bar, turn of telemetry, right click context menu) but it has been a pretty stable OS. Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy new pc's each time a new version comes out (At the moment just using the bypass methods). once they start blocking that method will have to start looking at linux.

I try to sell off my older hardware to support upgrading to the newer hardware components.

I don't think you'll ever have to worry about Microsoft blocking you. They actually came out after a period of time and explained how to install Windows 11 on systems that don't meet their recommended system requirements.

Here we go again.. Windows 11 will be the Windows 3.0, Windows Me, Windows Visa, Windows 8, of the 2020's!
Dude, pay attention. Windows 11 already is all of those, with extreme data harvesting thrown in for "good" measure.
Maybe some here too young to remember some of these!
Well, I'm pretty darned old. That being said, I'm old enough to have reached the conclusion that every other issue of Windows is nothing more than a "beta test", of the next version

As for Vista, a lack of driver support torpedoed it. Plus, it was boring as hell. One thing it did have going for it was native AHCI drivers, (SATA, if you prefer). Which did thankfully, put the final nail in floppy drive's coffins. May they R.I.P.

As for Windows 12, I'm guessing that it's "AI" component, will be nothing more than a method of tightening the noose M$ already has around Windows users necks.

"Planned obsolescence", is gradually morphing into, "forced obsolescence".

Look forward to messages to the tune of, "your machine does not have the hardware required to take full advantage of Windows AI functionality".

Windows 10 being king now...I'm Starting to think is Microsoft's own fault because of the TPM stuff a lot of people may not upgrade to 11 even if they want too.

MacOS has even less support for good PC games than Linux does. At least Linux has Wine now which get's hundreds of triple A titles running on a Linux OS.

But yeah, anything Apple makes I won't touch because branding the Apple logo on a watch or phone does not increase it's value by 10x in my mind.

Everything is turning to crap. Windows is getting worse with every release. And one of their main tasks is to spy on user behavior. Just like every other thing we use. Cellphones are personal spying devices, with a GPS locator, microphone and 5 cameras, that you must carry with you at all times. Cars have inside and outside cameras. TV sets have mikes and even cameras to spy you in your home.

Even open software is filled with spyware. That's why it's free. If you don't believe me, disable your internet connection, open GIMP (free image processing software) and open any image. I guarantee that opening will take 5 seconds. Even if you try opening a very small image. Saving will also take 5 seconds. Actually, not saving itself, but the period between naming the file and displaying the file options dialog will take 5 seconds. Every time.

Why? Because GIMP will attempt to call home, sending the name of the file you edited (and possibly other data) to the central server. Since internet is disabled, it will wait for the web site to respond until time-out (which is apparently 5 seconds) and then continue without completing the spying task. But don't worry, as soon as you open the internet connection its troyan behavior will continue as designed.

And now......... we're getting Windows 12 infested with AI spying assistant. For even higher quality crowd surveillance. Aren't we happy, happy, happy...

To some of of this is still true. Windows 7 is still king..

And don't get me started on how much sabotage M$ is inflicting on Windows 7 to try and get rid of it.

For example, I (re) activated a copy of Win 7 Pro, and had the audacity to switch on the "games". Within hours, I got the, "your copy of Windows is no longer genuine memo". I unticked the games box, and whaddya know, Windows was once again, "activated".

I reason I had to "re-activate" it in the first place, was because I took it offline with the clock accidentally set to register, "internet time". That took five tries on the phone with their robot voice.

And BTW, if current users passed on Windows 10 in favor of retaining Win 7, the "cumulative security update", which M$ portrayed as "largess was nothing but tracking software from Windows 10.

With it installed, I couldn't even navigate to Wikipedia or Walmart, without getting a load of crap from >Opera< about "bad certificates".

As you likely know Opera is a Chromium based browser, as is Edge. Accordingly, it isn't a case of "AFAIK", or, "IMHO", M$ installed spyware and tracking in Win 7, it's a stone cold fact they bricked the OS on purpose.

In times past I would have felt...excited when learning about new computer tech and all the other "surprise mekanix", but now whenever they tell me about this "AI" it's like they are putting another nail in my coffin. I feel like I'm living in a dystopian world, with Nineteen Eighty-Four right around the corner.

See that sharp decline in Windows 7 usage and increase of Windows 10 usage, in Jan-Feb 2023? It's when we got the message "To get future Chrome Updates, you'll need Windows 10 or later".

Big Brother is watching you! Keeping your safe and complacent.

I upgraded to Fedora, and while it took learning and setting up to get everything functioning for both work and gaming, there's no going back. Until there is an open source AI which maintains transparency and anonymity, I'm not interested in this new method of data mining.
What does that even mean, "open source AI"?

This AI support really is hype. I have an "AI accelerator" on the 11th gen Intel notebook I have. I didn't know it had one when I bought it, I was like "bonus!" since I was actually doing a little work with neural networks and welcome a speedup. What does it do in Linux? Nothing (it loads the driver for it.) What did it do in Windows before I wiped it? Noise cancelling for the mic. That's it! I was thinking "Well, it won't be as fast as an Nvidia card with CUDA for using with Tensorflow but I should get some nice speedup, if not now then in the future." Nope! The supported neural network size is so small it can't run much (I was sorely disappointed to find it does not use shared memory to allow as large a network as you want, it has a fixed, small size limit.) And it is not general-purpose enough to run Tensorflow or the like, it ONLY supports a few specific types of networks, so even if I'd scaled a few jobs way down they would not have run anyway. I don't think it's capable enough to run the bits of AI stuff that some games are currently doing either. AND (maybe this could be fixed via drivers) it's exclusive-use, whatever app grabs it first gets exclusive access; if Windows 12 decides to use it for all this stuff, applications may never get a chance to access it anyway.

(Just to add, even if this AI chip was excellent, I'm still dubious about it's usefulness other than speeding up tensorflow and stuff when the user is actually trying to run neural networks. And, I suppose if games use AI for whatever, they could do that on the accelerator instead of video card or CPU as an option. I have no idea why I should use AI to clean up mic input instead of the excellent algorithms that have existed for decades. I've made my choice and use Ubuntu Linux because I want my OS to sit there, operate my hardware, and let me run apps on it. No search suggestions, no AI chat in my start bar or whatever, I don't need it to auto-generate screen backgrounds for me, etc., thank you very much.)
"I have no idea why I should use AI to clean up mic input instead of the excellent algorithms that have existed for decades". Me neither. Maybe we should ask the three-letter agencies.

That is EXACTLY what the "AI" will do gather data from your computer even easier than before, specifically what you write and talk about. Spyware, for Homeland Security, to keep the homelanders secure.

Every single time I see Apple's logo I'm thinking of that poisoned apple that Snow White took a bite off. Perhaps I'm just not a good Christian. :)

I think it's actually a "visual euphemism" for the "apple of knowledge", that Eve gave Adam. (Which BTW got them kicked out of the "Garden of Eden"). No doubt though, it was probably passed around the schoolyard ever since. So If, "curiosity killed the cat", one has to wonder the extent of damage it's doing to Homo sapiens. "Windows 12, boy oh boy I'd like to try that". Hm, be careful what you wish for. Go back, it's a trap.!

In the biblical context, the bitten apple could be considered blasphemy. Not to be ignored in that context, is that Apple's business practices are pretty much, "crimes against god and man".To which I say, "screw Apple, and the snake it rode in on".
I feel like I'm living in a dystopian world, with Nineteen Eighty-Four right around the corner.
We're actually traveling in a "double-decker dystpoia", with Brave New World on the top deck, and 1984 underneath.

Which, I suppose, makes Fentanyl, "this years Soma".

Referencing 1984, the "don't say gay law", just passed in Florida, literally defines and codifies using the term "gay", as "crime speak".

Gee, do you think M$ and Google are working together behind the scenes?. After all, "Edge", is, "Chrome".

I hear the remix of this album is going to be called, "Every Good Boy Deserves RGB"
Every_Good_Boy_Deserves_Favour.jpg

Watch the birdie kidz. After all, M$ and Google are watching everything you do. (Poor kid doesn't know he's staring into the abyss).

AI is becoming the new Buzz word for investors following the fall of blockchain FTX, NFTs, etc. Proof, Nvidia is dedicating 30k gpus for chatgpt and now Meta is using the ai buzz word as well as Microsoft might be incorporating more ai features into Xbox and windows. I believe ai will be used more for data analytics than anything usefu imo. You don't have imagine it, you can just play the new game Atomic heart. The cronies love data analytics and will push ai down everyone's throats going forward.

-To be perfectly blunt, GIMP isn't worth a pimple on the a** of Photoshop Elements. The only time I ever tried it, I needed "adjustment layers". When I discovered it didn't have them, I muttered to myself, "WTF am I supposed to do with this crap". (PSE is basically, Photoshop without channels). As I was trained on Photoshop, the switch to PSE was fairly seamless

PSE is currently the only freestanding program Adobe sells, all the rest are subscription only. Oddly enough, it's also the only program Adobe provides ported to Linux. It's available by download only, directly from Adobe's website, and usually at full pop, $100.00.

I detest paying for software, but every few years I spring for the next to latest version of PSE. (I'ts about $50.00 to $60.00 at the changeover).

More to the point, Adobe has jumped on the "you need at least Windows 10 to install it", bandwagon. Which, in my case is really annoying, to say the least, as I have a copy of PSE 15, which is fully compatible with Windows 7. In a phone discussion with an Adobe rep, I was told bluntly, ".you can't activate the program, unless it's installed on Windows 10".

Adobe is generally in lockstep with M$ with respect to, "X version only goes with X version of .Windows". However, this development is so blatantly obvious, I find it hard to comprehend that anybody would be naive enough not to believe these corporations are herding us around by our noses, after having have some sh!thouse meetings discussing how they can wring the maximum profits, and inflict the maximum inconvenience, on their patrons.

The whole game is rigged, backstage, with all the major players involved and in Collusion, period. Boyz and Gurlz, that's a stone cold fact, not some wild conspiracy theory..

Windows 12 is not actually in development. Those silly rumors are very lacking.

As I was trained on Photoshop, the switch to PSE was fairly seamless

I started with photo editing using JASC Paint Shop Pro. And for the limited purposes I needed it for, it was simpler and much more intuitive than Photoshop. Some frequently used functions that needed like 5 clicks in Photoshop were 1 click in PSP. It was a cheap, small, fast image editor. Not the caliber of Photoshop, but enough for my needs.

Until Corel bought it. Then it became huge, slow and full of bugs. Which is a registered trademark of Corel. So I stopped using it.

I've never used Photoshop Elements so I can't compare.

GIMP was never an alternative to me, because it was.... how to express myself... let's say crappy. It was hard to use, illogically arranged, non-intutive, etc. It had all the opposite attributes from a good app.

But in the last few years it has improved significantly. First, they've learned that one encompassing main window is better than 100 scattered windows through which you see desktop. It took them just 20 years to notice the obvious, so not too long.

Some other functionality is still better, though it has bugs and illogical choices and takes time to get used to it. But the improvement was enough to fulfill my needs. It actually now has less bugs than PSP by Corel, even though GIMP is open source developed by volunteers, while Corel developers are well paid.
