Hi. My ASUS motherboard just blew out and I need to find a replacement. I have a AMD 64 FX-53, NVidia 6800, and 2 gigs of DDR2. Does anyone know that pin set for the FX-53? And does anyone have any suggestions?

The FX-53 is a socket 939 processor. Regarding the motherboard, is the graphics card AGP or PCI-E? If it's a plain 6800, it's probably an AGP but I'm asking to be sure.

That doesn't make any sense. The FX-53 was made for socket 939 only. Socket 940 is for Opteron server chips. The new AM2 mobos use 940 pins, but an FX-53 would not fit.

Thank you for clearing that up. That certainly clears things up. So does anyone recommend a particular motherboard? The Geek Squad rep told me that ASUS board have a very large habit of fritzing out, as mine did. Other than that I'm not sure what to get.

... the Geek Squad rep doesn't know what he's talking about :) ASUS makes very good boards. As for your 6800 Ultra, was the slot it used to be in on the old motherboard brown or white? If it was brown, it was AGP, and if it was white it was PCI-E (better than AGP). If it was white, one of the best mobos you can get is the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe. However, I understand that after that problem you may want to steer clear of ASUS. So this motherboard is good too:

If the slot was AGP, try one of these:

or

With that bottom one, I know all 3 reviews that are shown are bad but the overall rating is 4/5 :)

Wrong. The Athlon64 FX 53 was first available on socket 940 & it's only when socket 939 was put out that it was re-released on socket 939. If you have an early FX 53, it's indeed socket 940.
