Cats will hunt for the hell of it when let outside and are a real danger to birds and other animals.
Perhaps but... some people in a neighborhood in my city are complaining bitterly about rats, to the extent of calling the local CBS affiliate, when the city told them it would be six months for them to get out there and fix it.
There was a scene in NYC Times square with rats running all over during the pandemic.
I opined, (to myself of course). that, "I suppose you a**holes have cured the "too many stray cats problem"..
A"friend of mine", got tired of the male cats spraying odor, and when he poisoned all the cats in the neighborhood, all of a sudden, I had a massive rat problem.inside the house. The were so voracious, they were eating through the outer boxes of D-Con, effectively committing suicide. The house stunk of dead rats, lodged in places I couldn't access.
I haven't seen more than two mice in the past 20+ years, both of which were killed by my ragdoll, "Matty". (While "Bangor" the Maine coon looked on, as if to supervise). Hey, coonies are supposed to be stone cold rodent killers. (My a**, not that one).
As for songbirds, they don't really inhabit "da hood". What we get are English sparrows, pigeons, and starlings, which I believe are considered an "invasive species".. Suffice it to say, you're not out cleaning bird crap off your windshield very often.
So yeah, male cat urine stinks to high heaven, but considering the alternatives I've experienced, I can live with it.
