Just to clarify, while it was a reaction to King George's abuses of power, the second amendment is meant to prevent any US government devolving into a tyrannical body by allowing citizens to resist it in the form of a armed militia. Many of the early amendments were for this purpose. The 2nd doesn't mean that anyone can posses fire arms BTW, it means that government bodies can't de-arm legally formed militias. Something that is often overlooked by the "gun nuts" IMHO.
Yep - and like many laws, it is now being abused… The strength of the US constitution is that it is very hard to make changes - leading to a stable government… however, this is also a weakness in that unless a law is 100% useless (and there aren’t many of those) it’s virtually impossible to change them…
The right to bear arms, I believe, has outlived its usefulness. The US military is quite overwhelming - even a well-trained militia would be next to useless against it…
A handgun, theoretically the least damaging firearm, has only one purpose : to injure or kill a human being. Why are we allowing people to own these? Let alone bazookas, assault rifles, etc…

Learn grammar. The subordinate clause of the second amendment doesn't modify the main clause, it explains the rationale for it. That main clause is very clear: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

At the time the text of that amendment was written, there were no "legally formed" militias, as the term meant *any* group of citizens. Tenche Coxe, a member of the original Constitutional Convention, himself made it clear that "the militia" is essentially every person between the age of 16 and 60. And for more than 200 years, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Second Amendment does not apply strictly to "militias", but rather all residents of the US.

So the police should be sued (and it sounds like they are.) Looking for the Airpod location is clever; and (given it was in the street right in front of their house) getting the wrong house is not too bad. Going in with guns out, again, they think there car jackers in there so OK.

But this going around, punching walls, doing a kool aid man through their drop ceiling, dumping out drawers and generally tearing up the place and destroying property? Even if they HAD had the right house, going around destroying their property while they look for evidence is quite improper and they should be held responsible for this (which it appears they will be.)
