Apple turns in record-setting quarterly report fueled by strong iPhone 11 sales

I find Face ID to be far more convenient, I just look at my phone and it's instantly unlocked. So much quicker than a fingerprint.
No its really not, I have both Face Unlock and Fingerprint and Fingerprint is more convenient, I don't have to look at my phone to pay for things for example, out my pocket and onto the contactless pad rather than bringing it up to my face to awkwardly stare at my phone for a couple of seconds if the lighting's bad and then down again to the contact pad.

Sounds trivial I know but it does make Face Unlock less convenient when you want to use contactless payment.

Comparing Face unlock to fingerprint in our household, it seems for general use Face unlock is a bit easier while fingerprint can be faster, but not always. It'd be nice to have both but if I had to choose only one, it'd be Face.

And as far as long term support goes? Don't buy a $100 Android phone and complain that it stops updating after 9 months. Most midranged phones by respectable manufacturers support for atleast 3 years. Get a Samsung, LG or Google Pixel and you'll have plenty of updates for years to come. When you buy wingdongjingjong brand phone for pocket change and a stool sample you don't get to compare it to a $1500 iPhone and say "iPhones are better"
And keep in mind that Android is modular. A lot of their system apps can be updated through Google Play. Only an ignorant iPhone user would try to convince people that all Android updates are only supported for a year lol

That may be so in other countries such as in Europe but in the United States that is very much not so. You see, we have these stupid entities called cellular carriers and these stupid entities sell you a device for which they themselves are the gatekeepers of software updates.

Want that new update? Better go pray to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or whatever your carrier of choice is. They're holding the update back for "testing" or whatever kind of lie that they can come up with that week. For you see, they don't want to push software updates. Why? Because that's not profitable! They would much rather you buy a new phone instead. Why? Because again, it comes down to profits. Lots and lots of profits. And if you're in the Android world you can't escape this.

OK sure, you can buy an unlocked device and but there's always the chance that your carrier of choice will have issues with it. Granted, some carriers are better in this regard than others and I understand this. T-Mobile seems to be the nicest of the carriers in this regard but if you have Verizon... not even God can help you; even He is powerless over those @sshats.
What makes you think I live in Europe?

Because you talk about how things are much better than they really are in the United States. If you were in the US you’d be bitching like I am and damning the carriers to the seventh level of hell.

Ok so if Android is so modular then why does Google release new versions of Android every year to such huge fanfare? There’s this whole thing called Google I/O every year.

I don’t care if pieces and parts get updated through Google Play Services, I want the whole update; the whole x.0 update. Google wouldn’t release it to such fanfare if it wasn’t important. There’s got to be a reason or they wouldn’t do it and have a big old party too.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh. Instead of putting my energy into bitching I calmly channel it into bettering my situation and find solutions to my problems.

You should try it sometime, it's literally life changing

Because they can. And because they can also improve it with macro updates.

Good for you! Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it's a worse way of doing it.
Ignorance is not an excuse for bashing on something.

Lol - no one is crying.... and if YOU had bothered to read, you’d have noticed how I pointed out that Samsung and other Android flagships cost about the same or more than iPhones....

If people really wanted those features, they’d buy the expensive Android instead... but they don’t, so they didn’t.

I know it’s hard for you to understand, but maybe an iPhone actually IS a really good device?

Maybe read some reviews (including the ones in this site) that show it’s actually a phenomenal piece of hardware... nah... you must be smarter than everyone else in the room - kind of like the NY Giants GM :)

An iPhone doesn't compare to an android phone. And yes, I did actually read your previous comment. What you failed to mention while trying to look for any evidence to contradict my statements is that an entry level android with almost ALL the features of an iphone costs as little as £50/$65. This includes face id / fingerprint scanner and so on. The bonus is that it comes with android and so is infinitely better and easier to use.
As for "reading reviews on this website"... the comment right after yours gives you a few reasons why people who buy iphones have more money than brains.
Look, if you own an iPhone and you don't want to feel like you made a stupid decision buying it when you could have bought something better for less, that's fine. But instead of crying about it just show me what apple phones do / do better that android can't.

No... it doesn't really compare... it's actually just better :)

Here's some reasons why:

1) FASTER - in fact, MUCH faster, to the point where the benchmarks aren't even competitive any more.

2) Hardware/Software integration - because Apple only makes 1 phone, they can make sure that they actually work together seamlessly.

3) Easier to use - NO, Android is NOT easier to use. iOS is.

4) OS support - your 5-year-old iphone can still be upgraded to iOS 13.... can a 5-year-old Android device be upgraded to Android 10? NOPE!

5) Apps - any time a new app is released, it invariably is released on iOS first

6) No "bloatware" - so many droid devices come with extra crap that you need to hide, uninstall or simply ignore... no thanks...

7) Apple Pay - better than any of the wireless pay functions that Android devices have - and accepted at way more merchants.

8) Support - See above posts - but getting 5+ years of support for a phone just doesn't happen with an Android device.

9) IT JUST WORKS!

--> If you want more reasons, try Googling "why are iphones better than Android" or check out this link.

Wow, take your fanboy blinders off for a second.
1) A $1000 phone is faster than a $500 Android? Gee, I hope so. Otherwise, against comparative phones they aren't in a lot of cases. And that's if the average consumer even cares about a slight difference.

2) Apple makes more than 1 mobile device. Don't exaggerate your point. Be more specific.

3) Apple is more intuitive to use, but less flexible. Android has it beat with flexibility. Subjective.

4) Apparently you're being disingenuous. This point has already been refuted in this thread. Apples to oranges.

5) Bullshit. Don't exaggerate. It depends on the preference of the publisher and isn't a good point to make.

6) Sometimes they do. But they're also more flexible and easier to deal with. But all too often I get iPhone users asking how to make space on their device because it's mysteriously full.

7) Who cares. The world is not digital enough to try bragging about that. Heck, the one time I've seen someone try using it, they didn't even understand how lol.

8) Redundant and ignorant. Apples to oranges. Oh, and it's been shown (and I've personally seen) that Apple purposely throttles their older devices to encourage upgrading (despite their attempts to make it seem like only a battery issue). So, minus points.

9) What bullshit. Only a fanboy would throw that out and expect it to be a plus. Plenty of times it has just not worked (on both sides mind you). Take your blinders off.

And linking (and specifically asking to google a bias) doesn't help your "argument" at all, as I can say google "why android is better than iphone" (surprise!).

At the end of the day, it's based on preference and what you can afford. Not some shallow opinions.

Actually I already checked that link before replying and saw that the only thing worth boasting about was "faster speeds". It's like those websites that keep telling you how FIFA 20 is different to FIFA 19 - they pull up random stats that are trash and try to make a big deal of it.

The 2nd point is completely useless. "Apple devices only work with apple devices so keep spending money on us... meanwhile android devices work with all other devices"

3. You haven't given me an example of how it's easier to use. I have given you examples of why android is easier, why can't you do the same?

4. Android doesn't need to be constantly updated as it has most features already. iOS 13 came out in september. Can you imagine having to wait all these years for a dark mode? What else did this update introduce? Well, the dark mode was the most exciting update.

5. 3 million apps on google play. 2 million apps on app store.

6. Mild inconvenience that can be easily removed

7. google pay

8. doesn't need it as android already comes with everything needed

Also, try not to copy + paste in future. That's how flat earthers try to prove earth is flat - they don't have any of their own facts so turn to online websites.

And, just to get you to stop winging, here is a link to the SAME reviewer talking about android: https://www.tomsguide.com/uk/us/android-is-better-than-iphone,news-21296.html

And if you'll notice, these things are much more important than your "we don't have bloatware", including things like a WORKING FILE SYSTEM and a BACK BUTTON that apple has FAILED to implement all this time. Where is your "support" and "OS support" now? lmao

There aren't different Linux distros "just because". They all offer different functionality for specific applications. People wanting to game in Linux shouldn't download redhat or Debian. Those looking to run servers shouldn't download PopOS. If you want to do security testing, you download Khali Linux, not Mint.

At first that might sound dumb, but I'll put it into words your windows brain can understand. If you want to edit a photo, you get Photoshop, not paint. If you want to write a paper, you get Office, not notepad. There are specific tools for the job you want done. But essentially the only thing that separates any of these distros at this point is gaming. Basically, all the big ones can do it no problem. I look forward to playing cyberpunk on Mint.
But you're forgetting the very simple fact that most average users couldn't give a rat's *ss about it. They just want to have a general-purpose operating system where they can sit down in front of the computer and get to work/play. They don't care, they don't want to care, nor do they have the time to care about if this or that particular distro of Linux is good for this or good for that.

Linux Mint is getting close to that goal but there's still some choice where most users do not want to have to choose. The choice is what desktop system they want to use. Again, this is a choice that users don't want to be bothered with. There's a phrase... Keep It Simple Stupid.

This is where Windows shines, it is an OS that's a jack of all trades kind of system. As much as many geeks make fun of Windows, it gets the job done! I have a custom-built PC with LEDs and everything with ultra-high-end hardware with Windows 10 on it. I like to build my own PCs with custom parts. My desktop works wonderfully with its fully tricked out hardware. It runs work programs like Microsoft Office and other productivity programs and it plays games. (Oh that should put the idea of me being an Apple fanboi to rest!)

6) Sometimes they do. But they're also more flexible and easier to deal with. But all too often I get iPhone users asking how to make space on their device because it's mysteriously full.
This happens way to often, Only devices with 64GB of memory or more I don't get as frequently asking how to make space for updates but it still happens.

The few Androids I have had thrown my way because they are full are normally super cheap with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and every time I'm able to recommend a MicroSD card and just get all their photo's and music moved over, boom, sorted.

On an iPhone that costs literally ten times more, the option is to either backup to a computer and delete or pay Apple a monthly fee for more cloud storage.

It's not the Linux Mint is "getting close", it's that after spending 30 years using Windows people don't want to put 2 weeks into learning a new OS. Of which, you can do 90% of what you need to within 20 minutes of using it. The other 10% isn't because Linux is inferior, it's just different.

We dont have a Linux problem, we have a laziness problem. Windows XP was harder to use than Linux Mint, people forget the problems legacy operating systems had.

we have a laziness problem.
It's not laziness when people have lives to live. You know... go to work, come home, make dinner, take care of the children, clean the house, shop for groceries, and crash at the end of the evening only to get up and do it all over again.

And the way that iOS and the apps handle storage is poorly done. Had a friend just the other week asking why "Other" was taking up so much of her storage on her iPhone (was more than half)...
