Blocking Torrents Completely:Possible or no?

Hello all

I've been doing some active reading on the topic of whether torrent data can be filtered and blocked via some networking device (router, perhaps) or a Cisco ASA firewall, even. Is this even possible?

To my understanding, NO. Torrents use arbitrary ports above 1024 and can not be distinguished from email / browsers.

If you learn otherwise, please post back your findings.
