HP settles lawsuit over ink-blocking printer update, with no payout or admission of wrongdoing

This should never be an option allowed by the courts. Those that brought the suit should be ashamed of themselves for caving for personal interest.

HP are a disgrace, but the entire printer industry needs to be regulated more heavily as they are all trying this crap on.[

Don't blame the courts alone, it's a shortcoming in consumer protection.

I have a Brother laser & an HP color, which I use to print parts list for stuff I sell via eBay. Use the laser to print address labels, etc. Had it for over 5 years, have yet to replace the toner.

I bought the HP without knowing the deal with ink. Always buy the XL cartridges from Amazon. Costly, but I never bothered to calculate the usefulness / savings of buy a different brand.

I have never used wireless printers. I use wired printers and use a cheap laptop as a print server.
I don't think I ever had a firmware update because they just work.

Offices still print tons… it’s just personal users who don’t.
I am a personal user, I print all my own greetings cards, puzzles and games for "she who must be obeyed" Pictures of granddaughter and Gt.Granddaughter as well as paper copies of docs for my records, [No way would I entrust important docs to solely electronic filing
