I'm running a WinXP SP2 fully up-to-date on a Dell Inspiron 600m (pentium M processor, ati radeon mobility 9000 graphics card, ipw2100 intel wireless nic, broadcom 570x gigabit wired ethernet). My computer is a dual boot (Ubuntu + WinXP). I haven't had any software issues ever for the past 3 years that I've owned the laptop.
Starting a week ago, my computer would lock up randomly in Ubuntu. I reinstalled the ubuntu partition, ran off a live-cd, and I would still get these random lockups. After lots of googling, I haven't exactly tracked down the problem, but I am getting kernel messages that suggest it might be the wired Broadcom 570x gigabit ethernet adapter.
Anyway, since I started having these problems in ubuntu, I booted into my winxp partition and tried to see if I could crash my laptop in anyway by doing what I was doing in ubuntu: Surfing the net, listening to music and reading email in thunderbird.
Well, tonight I got a BSOD two times in the windows partition.... I've /NEVER/ had a BSOD on this laptop, and I have used WinXP fairly extensively.
The Event Viewer "System" tab shows an event like so:
I downloaded the WinXP SP2 "System Tools" package, which has "dumpchk"... I ran it on the attached two minidump files that I got from the BSOD.... But I can't figure out from those minidumps what exactly is causing the crash. Any ideas???
Thanks!
