After a series of teases over the past few weeks, Activision and Treyarch have officially unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops III, alongside a reveal trailer showing shows plenty of sci-fi action featuring robots, drones, and cyborg soldiers.

The game will be set 50 years in the future where external “cyber rigs” and bio-augmentation have bred a new type of soldier. Players will assume the role of Black Ops soldiers that are interconnected with an intelligence grid through Direct Neural Interface technology. They are able to boost jump in any direction, wall-run along vertical surfaces, perform power slides and mantle over obstacles, all while maintaining the ability to aim and fire at enemies.

This, thanks to a new momentum-based, chained movement system that allows players to move fluidly through environments and maintain control of their weapon -- something that’s already drawing Titanfall comparisons.

This year’s Call of Duty release will rely less on its “corridor”-style of level design in favor of open environments offering more space and freedom to explore. The game also introduces a new four-player co-operative campaign mode, allowing you to play through the story with up to four friends online.

Other things to look forward to include a new weapon customization system, as well as the Specialist system, which lets users choose between nine elite Black Ops troopers, each with a unique appearance, personality, backstory, weapons, and abilities. Competitive multiplayer will also be a big part of the experience and Treyarch's signature Zombie mode is making a comeback too.

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, 8, and 8.1
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-530 2.93 GHz / AMD Phenom II X4 810 2.60 GHz

When will game devs go back to making WW2 shooters? I loved those, Call of Duty 2 and even Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. I miss having some (relatively) historically accurate WW2 games to play, with today's tech they could absolutely spectacular!

We have had countless WW2 shooters. That era is finished. I'm soooo happy developers are making modern and futuristic shooters!!!

This will be another pre-order including the season pass!! This is definitely one series I can always count on for quality.

COD has become so fast paced and convoluted with nonsense I just can't see it returning to its former WWII or early MW glory. The best fans can hope for at this point is a remake I'm afraid or for another developer to step up and deliver. I would like to see Crytek take a shot.

The futuristic warfare that the Call of Duty games have gone to is not as good as the company thinks it is. I would much rather see something different (alternate time line / different world but in older or modern times) or re-making some of the older WW2 games with the newer graphics engines.

I honestly think that COD is slowly becoming worse and worse when Advance Warfare came out it had so much hype but now I look at Black Ops 3 It looks the exact same there is nothing really different from these two game not including different maps and most likely maybe different weapons but all in all the same advanced warfare has the double jump and those things that are completely nonsense I feel that the exo suit is terrible because it makes it harder to play. For example if you don't have the drop on someone then it's over, it's kind of the same with other cod games without the exo suit but to me the exo suit was a bad idea but I will give them this it is different. I was hoping that they kept the same with Black ops 2 because that was my personal favorite game and I hoped it didn't have the exo suits becuase I don't like it. This stage of COD where it's goiung into the future was obvious it was happening from all the other games for example Cod 1-5 other than modern warfare are ww2 games but then mw-bo2 basically modern not including waw. But I think it's a bad direction for the Cod company because it's getting too much like halo or titan fall.

Seems like they are moving towards a crysis like play style then the traditional COD style. I loved the old WWII shooters since it was kinda a way to replay some major historical battles. For a modern WWII shooter checkout red orchestra and rising storm on PC, fun games. They just released a WWI shooter, Verdun, that looks crazy fun and has great reviews so far. I don't particularly see myself being into COD much , but it still has a huge fan base that enjoy the series so it's prob not going anywhere anytime soon. Funny thing I noticed was looking at the comments on utube for the trailer how many people were pissed it's not coming to 360 and PS3.
