China has plans to make Minority Report a reality for its citizens

Oh, you sweet summer child.

I'll give you a respectful perspective..

The thing here is that this isn't easy to do. It requires connections, tons of storege and processing power, especially if you're trying to do it in real time. I've bumped off this tech for long enough to understand that it would be an enormous challenge to pull this off in scale clandestinely. Someone would know about it. And once people know about it they challenge it, and proof would emerge. Now, I'm no expert in the area of justice, but I don't think most western nations would risk the fallout from doing this in secret..

Exactly.

I love when I see "eastern" affiliates (normally Russian or Chinese) which try to deflect talking about their methods:

- in western countries you have MONITORING or SURVEILLANCE to help everyone's security. Freedom is untouched. I can say that I don't like the government X and happens nothing. EXACTLY what happens now: everyone writing here about a western government X can do it without issues;

- in eastern countries like Russia or China, the same is to protect the GOVERNMENT (dictatorship), so no-one is free to say what they want. If they do... bad things will happen. That surveillance is to help the dictators, not the people. People there "exist to work" to make Chinese or Russian oligarchs the richest.

The rest are Hollywood movies. And if the western countries would be so bad on giving freedom, those movies or TV shows would be possible in the first place.
Duh, Europe is full of hate speech laws that will send folks to jail for expressing their opinions.
US has the first amendment, but woke lynch mobs and civil rights lawsuits are used to silence dissent.

And if we add on top of that vaccine passports and mandates, well not much freedom is left.

You should go out more and get help. In Europe I can do / visit whatever I want without "vaccine passports" since last year; vaccine passports are there to protect people, not the other way around. If you see things really like you do, consider professional help, the problem is not on the laws / passport...

None.

Edit: To be more specific, not yet, anyways.
I don’t agree. Every single nation is doing this. You really think you are walking around without the authorities keeping tab on you? If so, I think you are too naive. The sophistication level differs, but it is certainly there, and eventually everyone will be closely monitored.

They may not do it in secret, but the narrative is always “for your benefit”. To clear, the cost is not a problem. Why? Why do your think governments want to monitor their people? You think the people that you elected as the authority of the country are so free to monitor where you are going, what you are doing, what you are eating, etc? Of course not. But the people we are behind funding these initiatives are the ones that have a big interest in tracking everything. So money is not a problem if the authorities are willing to cooperate.

You've missed the point - it's not just about the cost, it's about how difficult it is to pull off in a healthy modern free society. Once it becomes public it comes under intense scrutiny by the media, and the political circles. And that's before it gets to the courts. My country can't even get a national ID card off the ground not to mention anything like this.

I've no doubt there are arms of the state that would love to have this kind of power, but it is incredibly hard to pull off, both technically and legally.

Considering the given scenario, I really doubt China would open to outsiders completely for help. They are a bit skeptical when it comes to disclosing of data a prime example of this is their cyberlaws.

When you have no arguments, you sink low to personal insults.

Try going for a cruise without a vaccine passport or attending as an athlete sporting events. Or work at a hospital.

Someone in the "eastern" countries (or any country for that matter), who likes their gov, could use your exact words to attack a dissenter over there. That is exactly how free-minded you are.

Minority Report was about charging people with crimes that they haven't committed yet. There's nothing like that in this article so I'm calling clickbait.

This isn't a good thing (by any means) but being hyperbolic about it just weakens the author's position.

I wonder which western nations are already doing this.
From what I understand, the UK is completely blanketed with surveillance cameras that are monitored 24/7 in real-time. This is not a new thing in the West, it's just people throwing things about China against the wall to see what sticks. This article is from over a decade ago, want to make any bets that the UK's surveillance started using facial recognition since then?:
You're being watched: there's one CCTV camera for every 32 people in UK
There's nothing like blatant hypocrisy to completely de-power the narrative that this author is trying to push.
None.

Edit: To be more specific, not yet, anyways.
You can't be that naïve. Perhaps you should read the article I linked above.
Woah wait, you have an example of a western government doing this?? Please, do tell!
Same answer as I just gave you. I honestly thought that such things were general knowledge but I guess I overestimated what is classified as general knowledge these days.
Ok, but having some data (relative) and processing it effectively are 2 different things. Letalone having detailed profiles on everyone.

China is the closest country to doing it (they're the most obsessive over this type of thing), and even they don't have it all down yet. You really think an underfunded western gov't branch magically did this already?
There's ONE branch of the US government that isn't under-funded... the military. Who else would be doing a black-ops project like this? You can't really believe that it would be out of character for the US government to do this with all of the other crap that they've pulled.
Typical BuT wHaT aBoUt WeStErN nAtIoNs deflection to avoid discussing what's happening in China.
How many nations are doing imprisonment and atrocities on millions of own citizens simply due to their ethnicity?
You mean like how the overwhelming majority of incarcerated persons in the USA are African-American, First Nations or both? Remember that the USA has the most incarcerated citizens of any country and the most incarcerated citizens per capita. The USA has less than 1/3 of China's population but has more people in prison than China does.

I don't think that China is the country that should be the first to receive criticism concerning how iron-fisted their law-enforcement agencies are. It's up there, for sure, but the USA is far worse than China in that regard. Why aren't there articles attacking this truth? Oh right, there's an agenda to push and that agenda is to manufacture consent among US citizens to go to war with China. It's funny how before China, the US media was zeroed-in on Iran or Russia. In the USA, the media boogeyman changes almost daily.
And yet.... some will try to divert attention from reality by endless whataboutism.
And some will say, like me, that China is no angel but those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I have no delusions that China isn't a bad place but until the USA stops committing atrocities to its own citizens, it's not really in a place of credibility when it criticizes other countries, no matter how bad they are.

I think that you're intelligent enough to understand this truth.

The freedom that Americans have to be completely unaware of how good everyone in NATO outside of the USA actually has it.

Sounds like a lot of tinfoil hattery here. And you conveniently skipped over the whole "if China hasn't been able to do it yet" part, as it's a pretty safe bet to expect China to do it fully first (the dicktatorship that they are), not a western gov't... but that might just be naïve ol' me expecting western gov't inefficiency like always 😂

Seriously, general public surveillance ≠ individual surveillance letalone minority report surveillance lol

I am not insulting, I'm just noting a fact: you are just making up things to make a point.
I'm completely into demanding a vaccine passport to attend to some things or even work on some jobs: I don't want to risk that old fragile people get contaminated by young wild people who are just "against everything" and are too easy "online" influenced into thinking that "the world is against them"

As someone stated: "general public surveillance ≠ individual surveillance letalone minority report surveillance". If a camera catches someone making a robbery, committing a crime or knows that I went to the bakery at 8 am, I'm fine with it.

And again the same BS. The narrative started with 95% effective against transmission - then shifted to effective against hospitalization, then effective against serious illness, but every time passports are brought up, puff, magic, back to 95% effective against transmission talking points.

The funny part is that you talk against China for being authoritarian although you totally agree with an ever expanding state control in the west.

Every sentence you write contradicts itself. Woke culture at its finest.

Lolol you seriously need to go out more and leave the blogs you're visiting.

COVID-19 and many other virus (bird flu for example) started (created?) In CHINA. Vaccines reduced drastically the mortality and many people that I personally know of that were very bad in the 1st infection, after the vaccines had a very light flu. So, it is effective. Before people died as flies...

But if course, voices like yours are just, well, against. Against everything actually.

Also most countries have healthy laws, vaccines, trade agreements, etc. Not most of the "east" because they just do "as they want", sadly. So does China, Russia, NC, etc. Too sad.
