Because they can't keep their mouths shut. By definition. And that's not linked with intelligence one way or another so is a weird point to make.


Because they pay their workers less than the rest of the world so can compete for labor with a very large supply. The western world at least gives lip service to a living wage and living standards even if the follow through is frequently lacking.


...with sheer numbers of people. And how do they do that? By importing lots and lots of food because they can't grow enough food to feed those cheap workers. And the food comes from: western countries.

The Chinese are dependent on the western world and in a very basic way: for sustenance.

yah, like Dell computers - absolute crap. Not to mention almost every other windows computer. Oh, OK, apple computers are assembled largely in china too, but there good. Ae the other computers good, too - probably
 
Well, it's not x86, so no compatibility with any x86 programs - including Windows, etc.

Unless you are Chinese and want to run whatever software Loongson makes available, your only other option for the near future would likely be compiling your own binaries of open-source software on Linux, using a C/C++ compiler compatible with the Loongson ISA.
that is a bit shortsighted on the analysis. china was the world's largest economy for thousands of years, you don't think if they choose to tackle a market, they won't. I'm pretty sure Linux builds will be ported by someone, you will not have to DIY. They, or other companies, will have technologically competitive software, and even if its just for the Asian markets, which I doubt, that will be huge for them and a big dent in good ol USA sales.

Wasn't there a really bad US president that slammed on embargoes and now China has captured the number 2 spot in smartphones. Who would of thought (Well honestly, any reasonable intelligent human being would have figured that one out)

Good to see others are seeing it like this. Oddly China doesn't like our economy and doesn't like the idea we were actually better than them. Not going to get into politics but I wonder who sold us out.I hope Biden's son Million dollar paintings were worth it.

East Asians are absolutely crushing us.

They have been copying for the last 50ys and will do so. Never gotten edge in anything be it cars, planes, optics, electronics, space, finance, electronics, medicine...nothing. They work hard and suck all the knowledge in, but can't come up with new stuff as they have no free thinking. Unfortunately only cacausian ethnic group developed free thinking and is most innovative and that does not seem to change. IQ and STEM are not bringing new ideas. Just efectively repeats old knowledge.
 
Nope completely impossible. China has by far the largest manufacturing base in the world and 1.4 billion people. They could easily raise and arm 10+ million conscripts in short order if they needed to defend their nation and on top of that they have a credible nuclear deterrent for defensive purposes. China doesn’t need to worry about external threats, only internal discontent.
It would be a long war of attrition, should China actually win such a war, due to their dominance in manufacturing. On the other hand, no other nation on earth has anything near the world wide attack platform that the United States has. It's why America is the world's police, we can step in without fear of military retaliation on the home land. Other nations are within arms reach of one another. Just ask the nazi's if the US can drumb up manufacturing of their own like nothing this world has ever seen. As for china's mainland, well, U. S. Bombs would kill far more due to the densely populated region, on top of that the U. S. Has far more aircraft carriers and all other forms of attack vessel that it would be a turkey shoot.

I wish I remembered the details, but I remember watching a video showing how far behind China is when it comes to CPU's advancements.

The conclusion was they are not a threat.

their previous mips64 knockoff had a better chance of making inroads using an rstablished ISA (it failed, along with the custom distrio Red Flag Linux)

there are already over 100 different incompatible CPU architectures out there, so what makes them think this one will be any more successful (compared to your average Micrcontroller?)

For the pass 20 years of experience, did China R&D? Yes, but it's repeat and duplicate instead of research and development. From a country than have difficulty making Pentium II grade CPU suddenly jumps up to Ryzen grade? Between the years what CPU did they make? Don't trust any media but ask yourself!
 
It's like I said... only a matter of time. You can't be that rich, populous and productive without supplanting the USA as the world's biggest economic powerhouse. I give it no more than five years before China is the largest economy in the world.

I just hope that when it happens, the tension between them dies down because who knows what could be achieved with China, the USA and the EU working together instead of being at odds.

If China were to mandate the use of this CPU within their country, would it make a difference? In one sense, yes, because they would no longer buy from other countries, but they would still have computing power within China itself - IMO, that is the important part.

No, they tried that with Red Flag Linux, but they eventually stopped wasting their time.


There is no way they could force a not-x86-compatible CPU down anyone's throats, when the entire country thrives on Grey-market generic PCs.


Can you imagine the international shitshow China would start if they forced these down the throats of some Reputable PC makers like Lenovo? Nope, this thing is just as DOA as the last loongson MIPS64 processor

The communist approved processor built with stolen and copied technology. It also probably has some built-in functions to report data back to the communist headquarters and open backdoors so they can gain access.

Probably zero. Previous Loongson were MIPS-based (minus 1 instruction that was patented), and adding vector units and such (and an FPU... straight MIPS doesn't have one..) greatly increases your performance without requiring ripping off anybody. AMD, ARM, and I guess Intel (kidding, definitely Intel) have good engineers, not some magic "go fast" method that nobody else can come up with on their own. A good percentage of the speed gain AMD, ARM, and Intel get is simply from die shrinks (faster clock speeds + more transistors meaning more work per clock), the older Loongson MIPS used quite old manufacturing processes so it's likely they partly just switched to newer fabs.
