Try and identify where the sound is coming from. It is probably either going to be your HDD or a fan.

I'd put more money on your HDD being in the midst of failure. Back your data up to be save and replace the HDD.

If it's a fan, clean it if it's dusty, otherwise just replace it.

If the tires on your car are wobbling, do you want to take on the highway doing 75 MPH? Wait, how about if you're just in the passenger seat?

If you're willing to risk the loss of data when the drive fails, go for it, heh. It doesn't matter if it's a Master or Slave, when the drive dies, the data is going down with it (unless you're going to pay some private firm to extract it for you).

Your drive is dead, get your data off of it asap and then RMA or throw away the drive, its worthless now.

You can run a drive diagnostic tool on it if you want to be sure, also you will probably have to do so to get an RMA.
