Computer Tips & Tricks Everyone Should Know

Great article. Loved the tricks. I'm always looking for easier and quicker ways to do things. Here's an update for one of yours.

"Icon-only bookmarks on your toolbar You can delete the name of your bookmarks leaving only the icon so they take up less space on the toolbar. In Chrome: right-click the bookmark > edit > delete the name and save."

You can do the same thing in Firefox by right-clicking the bookmark and choosing Properties. Edit or delete the name and click Save.

This not only reopens the most recently closed tab, but it will also reopen all closed tabs, one at a time. For example, press Ctrl + Shift + T five times and it will reopen the last five tabs you closed.

"Bring back a closed tab We have dedicated a section to web browsing further down below, but this one is too useful to be missed. Accidentally closed a tab? Simply press Ctrl + Shift + T to reopen the most recently closed tab and get back to what you were doing (Cmd + Shift + T on Macs)."

Also, Ctrl + Shift + N will open all closed browser windows, one at a time in succession.

Some useful info in there. Didn't know about pressing F2 to rename. Here's another one: to go to properties, instead of right clicking and selecting the option, simply hold down Alt and double click.

Alt + Enter does the same thing.

Alt + Enter does the same thing.
Alt+Enter is typically for switching videos to Full Screen. I wouldn't suggesting getting used to using it for anything else.

Another useful tip: Everyone knows about Ctrl-Z to "Undo" a mistake or remove the last thing you typed, but what if you "Undo" something you didn't mean to? "Ctrl-Y" is "Redo" to "undo your last Undo". :D

Actually, Alt+Enter is an official, Microsoft-defined, Windows shortcut to Display the properties for the selected item.

Yes, but as I point out, it has been retasked... even by Windows Media Player... so frequently to enable "Full Screen", it can become confusing.

I really don't think it has been retasked. Not only is the list of shortcuts I gave you specifically for Windows 10, I'd say that's pretty current, but I've used Alt+Enter in Windows going back to at least Windows 7 and probably XP and it has always performed its defined function which is to display the properties of the selected item(s).

But, even if it were to be retasked, I'm pretty sure Windows can distinguash between Alt+Enter when used in Media Player vs when it's used in File Explorer.

These tricks are really good for a beginner like me.

Here is another useful trick press ctrl+shift+c and you will shut down your computer immediately.

I already now more than 70% tricks but still it was very exciting to learn some new ones.

I think you could have saved yourself some 'work' by not including the Mac information.

That cult, who is usually ~9% of the computing world will likely not read any non-Mac site, which is not endorsed by their higher cult members.

I took a visit to their world, post 'Linus-repair-gate' the other month, and despite having no valid argument(s), they were defending Crapple to the end. I thought I even heard cries of Allah Akbar etc...
