The Best Mouse: Our Favorite Mice for Work and Play

Any of you guys on here know which mouse (Razer or Logitech) has the best software for doing things like remapping mouse buttons to keyboard keys etc.? I usually use my RMB for any FWD movement in FPS - but I see one or two modern games (looking at you 'Tainted Grail') do not support mouse remapping... Rather sad in this day and age.

Have used a 502 Hero for 4 years and the only problem with it is the back button double clicking, otherwise it's a good mouse and will continue to use it until it breaks. Have considered replacing it but the X isn't a good enough upgrade to warrant spending more money on the same mouse.

I'm using the Logitech MX Ergo trackball now and adore it. For gaming, I always have hated mice. Having to do a rapid large turn in a game where you move the mouse to the edge, pick it up, move it to the opposite side of the pad, and move it again and maybe even repeat several times always dove me crazy. With a trackball you can either 1) Give the ball a hard spin and let go, or 2) for a more controlled movement you just move your thumb, and move your thumb again.

I used a vertical mouse for awhile at work, and it was definitely an improvement for my carpal tunnel at the time. The trackball improved more. But I ended up getting work comp double carpal tunnel surgery and I no longer have symptoms (my hands were numb 20hrs of the day, including going to sleep and waking up). I however stick with the trackball at both work and home, and probably will continue so until eye tracking and blink clicking is main stream heh

I use the Logitech software and it works really well with my G604 (best mouse ever). It can do per app mouse profiles, macros, and even integrates with some apps like discord. It does take a minute to figure it out as it's not always clear how to do things in the app. Sometimes it forgets to startup with Windows but it's easy to quickly open it. Also the Logi software does not work with Gamepass on a per app basis, so you just have to manually pick the profile when in game.

Curious to hear about the Razer software as the G604 is discontinued and the ebay price for these is like 3x retail. And there is nothing similar from Logitech at this time.

It's sad that the genre that's been pushing hardware innovation the most gets no play here.

Competitive shooters.

Ive been a logitech guy for a long time but the double clicking issue is plauging their high end products. I went through three logitech gaming mice and every single one ended up with the double click from single click issue. The mice becomes unusable in games. They have a manufacturing problem they have yet to sort out.

Look into it, swarms of folks on the internet have the same issue.

Got the logitech rgb speakers that everyone ranks super high. Wholey moley, its like they ship with blown speakers. When playing games not bad but when listing to a podcaster, they have a ring in them. I searched this, common issue. Nearly all of them have this problem. Initiated support, they sent me a new set of speakers and never asked for the old ones back. The new ones out of the box have the issue just as the first set. The only saving grace is when the sub of the 2nd pair blew out in one year from just general use and no loud noise, I had a backup. Pure garbage yet everyone ranks these things as one of the best...

I switched to razor and the mouse has been ok so far. Their keyboard though, the keys stop registering after awhile, like the S key when you are typing wont register. It happens to a few keys on the mechanical keyboard. And its not related to dirt, mine is very clean and I do regular cleanings. Another well known issue with Razor keyboards, just google it. I RMA'd it, got a new one, after about 1 year, its happening on this keyboard now too. Very expensive keyboard, their highest end product.

Both of these companies are pushing out poorly built crap that works good for a few months.

After running into these problems, I was shocked I had 15 years of no issues with logitech but then their stuff stopped working for more than 6 months. I was a die hard fan and had to jump ship. Then tried razor and ran into the same poorly built problems. When researching the issues, I was blown by how many people have these issues yet still these products get pushed.

I still use them but at the price point, its insane. You will be lucky if they work great past the 1 year mark. At that price, ugh. I feel burned by both companies.

The Logitech G700 was excellent while it lasted, but the click register mechanism eventually became unreliable. Unfortunately, it's no longer in production and I can't find something close enough to that.

I went through two different $60 Corsair gaming mice and they both had button problems after 18 months. I got tired of wasting my money so I bought a $10 Logitech M100. It worked fine for a while but I needed a mouse for another computer so I upgraded to a $30 Logitech M500. They both still work well and I will keep using them. My biggest complaint is finding inexpensive wired mice at brick and mortar stores. Office Depot and Staples mostly have wireless casual/travel mice and Best Buy has expensive gaming mice.

The best mouse is a good, fingertip operated trackball. I like the Kensington Genius and SlimBlade trackballs. The are very well made, and last forever, but they only offer a polling rate of 125 Hz, so they aren't the best for gaming. But, I use them for gaming anyway. I hate having to constantly pick up and move a mouse to recenter it.

+1

An older version of the MX Ergo serves me well for gaming (and surfing). For work, I am really happy with the smaller version of the MX Lift Vertical.

And for on the go, there is a small size wireless mouse from HP that's both compact and still great to hold.

Using these different shapes also helps me to prevent issues with hand/wrist nerves and tendons.

The 3S has been the worst mouse I've bought so far in my life. Absolutely horrendous pulling rate makes the experience absolute ****. White turned to a disgusting yellow and this crap cost 120€. Wtf Logitech...

The only thing I really ask out of a working mouse is that it NEVER scrolls by itself! I have 5 different brands that ALL will randomly scroll 1 line up or down. I fought this for decades, could be a windows flaw. Anyone else fight this?

I'm missing the days where a good gaming mouse came with extra weights that you could add to just get the right feel.

Also, I miss the old logitech software. The one that wasn't bloated and actually intuitive

A few years ago I retired my old G602 (earlier G604, and it was great) and was looking for something similar. The 602 was wearing out after some epic use, and was getting slow anyway vs the newer dogs in town. As much as the G604 was an improvement on it's predecessor, it also had a couple of anachronisms I didn't like.

I took a chance on a Razer Naga Pro after having and using a Viper Ultimate for a while and it's been good enough that I'll stick with Razer for mice unless anything sways me enough otherwise. The Razer SW probably isn't perfect in every way, heck Logitech and Corsair certainly aren't either... but it's held up more than well enough re the two mice, headset (Barracuda X) hard RGB mousepad (Firefly V2) and keypad (Tartarus Pro) Tbh it helped that I got a decent, and re the mice great, discount on all the Razer gear.

Oddly enough, Prime Day is coming up which is where I got most of the above discounts so if you have an account take a look then for the above and other offers.

Not being a "gamer", I'm not that fussed about hyper-responsiveness. I will agree about general precision, comfort, behaviour, features, etc; in recent years, mice have improved out of all recognition compared to say, as little as 6-7 years ago.

I treated myself to a Logitech Master 2S a couple of years back. One of the nicest mice I've had - I have fairly broad hands - it's just a tad TOO wide for my liking. A few weeks ago, I invested in Trust's new Ozaa + multi-connect mouse. Similar in concept to the 2S, it's a wee bit slimmer.....along with having the obligatory horizontal scroll-wheel (a "must-have" for me). Although lighter than the Logitech, this fits my hand perfectly, so.....the 2S has been in the mouse-drawer a lot this last month or so!

Yup. It's just the same under Linux, too, so.....you're not alone with that one! I suspect the issue to be that that the "optical engines" are just TOO sensitive nowadays.....

Miq.

I'm still using an ancient Goodmans active speaker set I purchased almost 25 years ago for plugging a portable CD player into! 30W per channel, built-in amp and sub.....and they still sound as good as the day I bought them.

I can confidently say - no word of a lie - that I've had my money's-worth out of these guys...

(*shrug...*)

This is why mice have very high IPS (my G502 is set to 4000) and your carpel tunnel is caused due to a lack of exercise. I used to have carpel tunnel too until I intensified the calisthenics that I do and I haven't had carpel tunnel in over 20 years.

my razor mouse did this until I threw it in the garbage. I dont have the issue with logitech however logitech has the double click issue.

I always use an MMO mouse. I have several versions of razer naga, logitech g600, and corsair scimitar. I like all of those. The logitech seems lower quality, but I like the way the angled the number pad buttons. I currently use the scimitar as my primary mouse. Corsair build quality has improved and is pretty solid while other brands seem to have declined in recent years. It’s a solid pick.

Might want to update prices for the tariffs. the MX master 3s hasn't been 99 dollars in months. TBH I wouldn't buy any tech products till the tariffs go away. Handhelds PCs are up over 100 than Canada and Mexico and same with the Logitech mouses. America needs to stop buys stuff and force the tariffs away.

Even so many years later, Logitech's MX is the most stylish mouse.
But there is a feature I found in another mouse by accident and I cannot live without it anymore.
It is a special button which after pressing makes scroll wheel a volume knob.

I often change volume because the videos on YT have various level in addition to my collection of mp3 music.

I do not know how I lived without this feature. But it is the best. The mouse is Roccat Kone XP. There are probably other mice that have the same feature but I am not aware of them.
It also has like 10 other functions you can put on the mouse, but I am not currently using those.
