computer won't shut off

I have a home built computer with a windos 98 second edition o/s, 700 hz chip and an Abit kt7 motherboard. all of a sudden my computer does not want to shut down automatically. can any one tell me the problem and how to fix it please.

Have you tried running scan disk and telling it to fix file system errors?

This may not help but it`s worth a try.

For me the problem was not having 98 ' se 'drvers for S3 video just the standard driver for 98.

I remember having that prob on my old computer, too. My problem was fixed after a couple windows updates.

Do you have Mcafee virus scan installed?
I remember getting this problem quite a bit in the old days. If Mcafee is set to scan the floppy drive on shutdown then the computer hangs in windows98SE
