I started having the problem of CPU Spikes so that it will freeze the screen momentarily. I have been monitoring others with the same issues and tried all the suggestions, disconnected USB, removed the battery, Un-installed most software, It still spikes to 100% every 3 sec.
I am going to install McAfee as it is a memory hog.
specs. are Inspiron 6000, 2 gig ram, 80HD, 250 USB2 external, OS XP spk2,

This is driving me crazy. Any new ideas??

Well i find you computer to be infected with malicious software mean that you could be having a virus or a worm or spyware. so i would think that you install a software can do all that, or for a start used iolo search and destroy and kaspersky.. or if you have the full updated version of McAffee, use that.i would also say that you try using the microsoft Autoruns, to help you monitor the processes. and kill some that r irrelevant to you, most watchout for anything with a funny name or a name that is doesnt exist.am sure that will help you.Wish you luck.Robin
