Ctrl+alt+del problem

taskmanager.manifest no I don't have this file, it must be a command

I think it's to do with Explorer.exe

I could resource hack explorer.exe, but I don't know where the ctrl+alt+del is, and how it would be worded

tried it...no such file in there o.o maybe its in winlogon?

or MAAYYBEEE we COULD make a manifest out of the taskmgr.exe

Yes you already know that you can create a command out of anything
I still think replace explorer.exe with a know good one.
Which will probably stop Windows working! But that's where I'd say it lives

well... I made the manifest for taskmgr.exe well not actually made...I think I "hacked it" off taskmgr.exe with ResHack

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<assemblyIdentity name="WindowsShell" processorArchitecture="x86" version="5.1.0.0" type="win32"/>
<description>Windows Shell</description>
<dependency>
<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity
type="win32"
name="Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"
version="6.0.0.0"
processorArchitecture="x86"
publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df"
language="*"
/>
</dependentAssembly>
</dependency>
</assembly>

should it be named taskmgr.exe.manifest?

Check #24 post (you did see the edits I hope? As I'm not suppose to reply to my own post, or anyone actually)

I say explorer.exe resource hack, but you need the line that's missing (umm who knows!)

By the way does ctrl+alt+del work lets say in cmos (ie is it in io.sys or ntldr)
You know SP2 might fix this, then just trim it all down again (you can even order a free CD)

yes, it works xD

I don't have the patience to trim it down xD and If I probably do I'll stay like this again, there HAS to be a way I know there is!

oh in dos

Dam it ! Back to explorer.exe hacking!

I'll leave it with you (ie too many posts on one simple thing that repair will fix anyway !!)

Please post back once you work it out, (if ever) with the editing answer

Just making this post as a bump xD

I edited my previous post so... (post 33)

if you can, can you compare the logs?

hmm, shell32.dll?

I'm comparing the shell32.dll from a working Ctrlaltdel PC with the non working one, both have the exact same sizes....though...I haven't MD5 checked them o.o

Make a backup of explorer and try that one too

By the way, that might destroy your computer program group a tad !! Not to mention startup issues

Ok, nevermind, this version has problems,

DO NOT GET THE ASUS EEE PC VERSION OF WINDOWS!

Anyways..can a mod lock this thread?

even years and years old threads are still available to reply to
I actually asked for this to be stopped once (by having a solved option)
But much to your happiness it was never passed.
Therefore, this thread will remain open (without any mod editing)

Have you read the entire post here, because there were lots of suggestions.

If so, then wait until madcat1990 replies in a few days or so !

Well. I gave up :O got me another version around 200Megs (the ISO image)

this one works, not with the same load time...but works :3

maybe it was a problem in the distro cuz a lot of things were cut, maybe even the ones required.

maybe it was a problem in the distro
Yes obviously !

But I really thought you might have gone all the way, did you at least copy a known good explorer.exe, I would've liked to know if that's where it lives. (seeming you wiped it anyway !)
