DARPA unleashes 20-foot autonomous robo-tank with glowing green eyes

.. This is a large reason why the US is recommissioning the battle ships...

Source? Only info I could find was about the DDG(X) program, which is another guided missile destroyer meant to come after the Flight III Burkes. Unless you meant Zumwalt? Which was originally envisions as a replacement for the Battleships after their were decommissioned for a second time, but the class got cut from something like ~32x ships to ~3x ships due to LHM lobbying - because they didn't get the contract, so they pitched the Flight III Arleigh Burkes, and then said "well, why are you buying different kinds of DDGs? And if you're going to keep just one, it should be the "proven" one (even though the Flight IIIs are effectively a new ship compared to the Flight IIs)

It's not worth the effort going for autonomous tanks as navigating terrain is very challenging and the vehicles are too easy to take out. In the video it was just going in a straight line over whatever was in front of it without making any decisions - they might as well of just used a normal tank and put a brick on the accelerator pedal (or however they work). It would be far more worthwhile going for autonomous drones and using ML to identify targets in a given area. The real challenge is getting them to fire at enemy soldiers and not at civilians etc. Or getting legal approval.

I’m all for letting the robots to the ugly work. My main thought is,” Are we ahead of the competition in stage of development/eventual deployment? I see this tech becoming mainstream before end of decade!
