Disabled External Harddrive

OK i have been having problems with my external hard drive for some time (windows was coming up with the message "delayed write fail"). This would also lead to the me not being to safely remove the harddrive.
While trying to fix this i managed to disable the 'Generic M' part of my hardrive. M is the letter assigned to the harddrive.
Now i am able to see that the harddrive is attached and recognised by the computer as a USB device (so it can be removed) and as a disk drive in the device manager. Unfortnatuly the harddrive doesnt come up in my computer and i cant access it.
The harddrive is a MAXTOR S TM3320620A.
Any help would be very much appreciated as it contains alot of uni work i'm really going to need :-(

Reassign a drive letter for it in Disk Management.

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management or something like that.
