Foxconn is preparing to release two barebones-style Nano PCs in the very near future. Customers will have their choice of either an Intel or AMD processor in a form factor that is roughly 40 times smaller than a standard PC tower.
FanlessTech fills us in on the specifications of both units. The Intel box will feature a dual-core Atom D2700 operating at 2.13GHz while the AMD system will ship with a dual-core E450 APU clocked at 1.65GHz. Each system includes two USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0, an SD / SDHC / MS / MS Pro / MMC card reader, a Gigabit LAN port, an HDMI port, a VGA port, 802.11n WiFi and a VESA mount.
The systems weigh in at 600 grams and with measurements of 19-cm x 13.5-cm x 3.8-cm, users will have a lot of flexibility when it comes to choosing where to install or mount the Nano. Foxconn is able to produce such a small footprint because the systems are fanless.
As a barebones system, the end user will be responsible for supplying memory and storage for the computer. The Nano features accommodations for a single DDR3 module up to 4GB in capacity while storage is limited to a single 2.5-inch drive.
Power output for both systems is rated at 15W idle and around 24W under full load with pricing in the sub-$200 range. We should know more (including a launch date) as soon as Foxconn makes it official.
