Gateway DS 450X Laptop wont power up!

The problem started about a month ago, I would be using my laptop and it would shut itself down. If I let it set for 30 mins it would come back on and I could use about an hour and it would go down again. The machine is all orginal nothing has been added or changed from the orginal config. I took it to a local pc repair shop as well as Gateway and was told they could not duplicate the problem and nothing was wrong. Now it wont come on at all, it tries to boot up and shuts right back off. Sometimes it makes it to the Windows XP screen and then shuts down. At first I thought the laptop was getting to hot but now it seems like a power issue. I am not techincal, but am tired of spending money to be told there is not a problem with the machine, therefor I am looking for a resolution to this problem myself. Any suggestions is much appreciated. Thanks!

laptop issues are posted in the laptop forum. Either it is power or heat.
I suggest replacing the power pack. That's an easy thing to test.
