..... yet nothing showing on the screen.

Just had an anguished cry for help from a friend of mine:

"Whilst putting all the new wires etc in the back of the old PC for my daughter, the tower fell on its side. It stayed on. It is still powering up but the Hard Drive light is on permanently and nothing is showing on the monitor. I have restarted and powered off and up again but it is still the same. HELP !!!"

I don't know much about the system, other than it is a fairly old Athlon XP of indeterminate size. It runs XP Pro.

Anyone have any solutions/suggestions? If so I would be immensely grateful!

Cheers!

Jo

You need to get inside it and check both the power and data cables on the back of the hard drive and the data cable to the mobo to see if they are seated properly!!!

It may be best to pull the plugs out and refit them to make sure!!!!

You said the system fell on its side.

The first thing that came to my mind is that the video card came loose. It might look like its seated but it might not be.

Thanks guys, shall give him the advice, and let you know whether it works out.

Much appreciated!

:D

Turned out to be the graphics card, and all is now well.

Thank you very much indeed, both of you!
