I have a Dell Dimension 8400 with 1Gb of memory comprised of 2 sticks of 512MB 1RX8 PC2-4200U-444-11-A0 512Mb, DDR2, 533, CL4 (this was taken from what was written on the stick of memory)

I purchased 2Gb (2x 1GB sticks) of Kingston RAM DDR2-667 (PC-5300) (KVR667D2N5K2/2G (http://umart.net/au/product_info.ph...02710&osCsid=f990c0ef2397e555ee5d352be3605614)

I installed the RAM (one stick at a time; both sticks; with and without existing RAM etc) and get 1 long beep (short pause) 3 long beeps (longer pause) 2 long beeps and the PC does not start.

I put the original RAM back and PC is working OK.

What do the beeps mean and should the new RAM be compatible?

That code appears to mean, "Memory not being properly identified or used." Do you have diagnostic lights (4 leds) at the back panel? If so, what is the color pattern?

Hi Mailpup. Have done some more research (Dell Support) and have found that the RAM is not supported (too fast). You don't happen to need 2Gb of RAM??!! Thanks for the speedy response

please bother to read the guides forum. Both RAM and BIOS beeps are covered there.
