Help with upgrading memory

hi how is everybody doing I have a problem with installing two 1gig memory sticks wanted to see if you guys can help I have a Gateway 710x pc with a Pentium 4 processor it has two 512 in there now and it has for slots for memory Gateway said it could handle four gig of memory I tried to put to one gig sticks but they do not work I tried the memory on a nether computer and they work fine I can take one 512 out and the computer works doesn't anybody have any ideas thanks

that was a lot of good information thank you the voltage is the same and as far as I know I think the modules of the same I am not sure

2520577 the motherboard can handle for modules up to four gigs I have in there now PC 3200u-30331-b1
512mbx2 ddr 400 cl3 and this is the modules that I bought1GB (Size)
PC3200 - 400mhz (Speed)
CL 3 (Cas Latency)
128x64 -Built with 128Mx4Bit Dram (Hi-Density Dram- Please check compatibility)
Un-buffered
Non-Registered
184Pin
Non ECC
 
you can use regular (non-hyper) pc3200 ram in your gateway. DDR 400
I recommend two 1gb sticks.
